  1. Lions generally require big tanks because of their high output, i.e they shit a lot. They normally "hang" around rockscapes, and swim rarely, so there is a tendency people gets bored after a while, and starts piling up more "swimming" livestocks, resulting in over crowding of the tank. The smallest lions available are dwarf lions (be it fuzzy or zebra dwarfs). Even those can grow up to 7". Their growth can be quite tremendous, and you will probably find it too big for your 2ft after 6 months.
  2. What about Friday? I think a lot of LFS still closed on Friday rite? Anyone got any idea who will be open then?
  3. Picked it from Kallang Basin. You want it? I thought it's not reef safe?
  4. Interestingly, there seem to have quite a few reefers who clean their skimmer on monthly basis (18%). Would anyone like to share how they ensure the effectiveness of the skimming with the "low" maintenance, e.g "over skim" or "under feed"?
  5. Gee, thanks veliferium. Though I am interested to confirm the species of the crab, I have returned it to its natural home.
  6. They are out of water when I found them. But I am not sure if they really are nerites. Couldn't believe my luck. Found them at the shoreline during low tide. Can anyone recommend an URL to read more on nerites? There are different types of nerites, correct? MC: what is SUAY HONG?
  7. So it's not reefsafe. Does it work on apstasia?
  8. It's a nudibranch, but I don't think you will want to keep it. Probably got hitch-hike from your buttons.
  9. Appreciate if some kind soul could help id these snails.
  10. That's a very creative explanation. Anyway, I don't think MC came up with this nick, think his friends started calling him that, and after a while he got used to it.
  11. Although I am using Weipro, I am also facing the same situation, i.e skimmate does not increase linearly with time. So it seems that there is a cap to the amount of skimmate being coughed out, rather than being "generated unlimitedly" over time?
  12. Just wondering, how often do you clear the skimmate from the skimmer. Does not clearing the skimmate affect the performance of the skimmer?
  13. We like calling you that too. Think my nickname is pretty obvious. It was also my very 1st reason for setting up the marine tank.
  14. Actually mollies are better food compared to goldfish. But I suggest feeding with glass shrimps instead of the fishes. Daily feeding may be too heavy for the lions, esp with 3 goldfish per day, I am not so sure if the volitan is able to digest its food (btw, I have no idea the size of the lion, vs the "food"). If the lion shows a huge bulge in the belly, stop feeding for a couple of days (maybe longer) and wait till its food is digested. Lions can go without food for more than a week, so not to worry that it may starve to death.
  15. With all due respect, I dun think the lion will ever catch the damsel because it will probably be busy acclimitising to its new environment. On the contrary, there is a likelihood that the damsel may start harassing the lion, and find chances to nip the lion's long fins.
  16. May I know which one went into the tank 1st - the volitan or the goby? So far all my casualities were introduced AFTER the lion. I am not sure if there is any relationship on sequence of introduction, but I guess it may improve the survivality of the potential "prey".
  17. I was wondering if we could use a single pump (assumingly strong enough) to work the skimmer, at the same time double up as a return pump? Has anyone tried doing this?
  18. I dunno cos never tried, but I doubt. When I feed frozen mysis to my other fishes, it only looked curiously at the food, but never touch them. Then I tried feeding with frozen shrimp, but to no avail. Thinking of trying with market prawn next. Please share if you have other suggestions. Am willing to try to wean it while it's still with me.
  19. Hi all I am selling my 3" Dwarf Zebra lion as it seems to begin "paying attention" to some of my bottom dwellers. Been with me for more than 2 months. Has been feeding with ghost shrimps (it's very alert when the shrimps are introduced ). Selling for $10. Interested buyers please pm me. Thanks.
  20. Congrats on your new acquisition man. Would really like to see it in person. Perhaps can arrange a day for exhibition to see your exotic fishes. Hey, why don't you update with a full picture of your tank? I am sure it's going to be very spectacular.
  21. Stable scorpion man!! Where did you get it from? How big is it? Is there any difference in terms of care and habit between the scorpion and lion? How's with your angler's feeding? Still as tedious?
  22. At first I thought cowries are carnivores. Later came to find out from Reef Central that some could be herbi too. My cowrie is a 3-incher, and has been in my sump for more than a month already. Dared not place it in the main tank for fear that it would topple my LRs. I also wonder what it feeds on as my tank is as bare as the desert.
  23. My tank is at Kallang area. Can share if it's convenient. Mine seems to be growing faster than expected, probably due to live food feeding. If the growth rate continues, I may have to sell it.
  24. My lion only whacks live food. So far I am only feeding it with live ghost shrimps. But it's very wasteful because the minimum cost per pack is $2, and my lion can't finish that much. A lot of shrimps died as a result. Interestingly, it doesn't disturb my other LS. How long did you have your lion before it started eating frozen?
