  1. MAke sure you have a hammer drill and correct drill bit for concrete. Next, remember to switch it to hammering mode. Else you will have a hard time drilling through wall or ceiling. The rest as per what is mention by edwan. Happy drilling.
  2. Finally manage to pull the clam off the rock that she has attached. No injury or so, clam open up nicely on the new location. Thanks again all for the advise really appreciate it. Cheers!!!
  3. Big thanks to all I tried to pull the clam just now. Yes, did see the thread sticking to the rock. The thread gets longer the harder i pull but didn't come off, no heart to pull it some more. Will try the razor method tomorrow.
  4. Yes, leaving tank without fish for 1 or 2 month does help eliminate parasites, but not all. Saw your thread on your marine tank, is it the four fishes that died? Did you add any new fish/fishes recently?
  5. Well, couple of weeks ago bought some clams, decided to place them high up on the rocks so as to have my 250W mh over them. Problem is the clam already attached themself to the rocks, so how to shift them now? Use force and pluck them? Thanks
  6. Need some clarifying 1. Does extra long cycling = better? 2. Will all the BB die off due to no bio-load? From my understanding Cycling is considered complete when you got Zero reading on Ammonia and Nitrite Then do a water change of 20% to lower a bit of nitrate. And you can start adding LS slowly. IMO cycling can be fast or slow, depending on the amount of LR and size of the tank you have. My tank conmpleted the cycling in 1.5 weeks, but only started adding LS slowly when its 1 month old.
  7. Make sure the stand is weld probably. From a reefer here once told me that the internal thickness of the wrought iron is 2mm (3mm will be good), not strong enough for marine tank. I remember have one such stand which after filling up with water and sand, the front 2 side joint BEND and nearly tear off As for me I'm using 3mm thick steel square tube for my stand. One word of advice strength of the stand is definitely there, but Rust will kick in sooner than you expect. Unless you powder coat with epoxy, which is quite expensive and troublesome. My 2 cts worth.
  8. Well our boss AT are using metal stand. Sure there must be some plus point Just make sure you get a good quality one, and look out for spill. My DIY metal stand cost me $50 only, though Boss's one is FREE
  9. How do you suck water from the main tank? thanks
  10. Did you make your own salt water or buy sea water to change?
  11. Good effort!!! Nice work!!! Ever thought of hiding the wire that come out from the MH holder? Maybe you can drill a hole on the reflector for the wire to pass thru, running between the reflector and the casing?
  12. IMO, If its not difficult to change the filter foam, then continue to use it. I dont see any ill effect I'm not sure how efficient your skimmer is capable of skmming out the dirt, but having the foam does trap "waste" from tank. Just change it regularly Having 2 level of filtering is better than 1. My 2 cents worth.
  13. May i know your bio-load, feeding habit, amount of LR, and how often you change your water for your 55+(estimated) gallon tank & sump. What kind skimmer are you using?
  14. Thanks for the recommendation I will consider that when I need to hang one more MH box
  15. Agreed totally Now waiting anxiously for the 2 weeks burn in period and take picture to compare again Pal.
  16. Have check with the guy who sold me the rack and hook. I told him I'm hanging a 15Kg object(actually lesser than that ), he guarantee no problem with the rack, as for the hook, each can withstand 13Kg load. Have to be extra caution on this, no joke if it fall off into the tank
  17. 2 days old 14K Hamilton 250W Mh bulb seems darker(From deepblue brother, it need 2 weeks to burn in to show full potential ), but it really colour up my coral, and also the shimmering effect of the light give a very natural look to the tank, but too bad the picture can't tell
  18. A comparison of lighting colour and intensity: 4 x 36W 10k PL vs 250W 14K MH. The 10K PL seems brighter but slightly yellowish compare to the 14K bluish white.
  19. Closer view of the hook. The hook's cable length is adjustable.
