  1. I share your views, pets like dogs and cats have temporary adoption services. But in this type of hobby it is so difficult to find a place where we can "tompang" our coral and fishes. No such service caused headaches for people going on holiday, doing renovation, moving house or simply upgrading to a larger tank. Just wondering whether got anyone got such services, I don't mind paying a sum of money for the days our LS are taken care of.
  2. Hope the below information helps those who are looking for Marine LFS from the majority Freshwater LFS. Those who know the directions of other LFS can also contribute. Those who had posted their directions of LFS in other threads, please help to cut and paste in this thread so that it could help other members too. This is for the benefit of everyone to make it easier for each & everyone of us to find our desired Local Fish Shops around. Please note that this posting is to help members to get around with public & not private transportation. As such, please give directions quoting the nearest MRT station, bus interchange, bus nos, etc, etc. I will contribute first for Reborn, Paradiz Reef and Sealife. 1. Sealife: Nearest MRT station is Toa Payoh or Boon Keng. But I rather alight at TP coz can straight away hop to bus no 145. If not after you find Reborn, you could take bus no. 145 along Lavender Rd and proceed straight to Sealife .Please alight at the bust stop after Shaw Plaza. The place is located near to Hoover Hotel. However, Hotel 81 sign is more prominent for you to know that Hoover is just next to it. The whole journey takes about 15 minutes from Toa Payoh. However, I'm not too sure how long the journey will last if you were to take a bus from Lavender Road coz I always go there from TP. 2. Reborn: Nearest MRT train is Boon Keng and exit the train by exit C. You will see an open area the size of a football field and some HDB houses nearby. Walk along the stretch of field until you come across a new stretch of road, called Lavender Road; where the traffic is quite high. Cross the two stretch of roads and voila, Reborn is just in from of you. 3. Paradiz Reef: Same MRT and same walking distance like No. 2. After you find Reborn, walk along the flow of traffice for at least 5 minutes. There are two set of traffic lights that you need to encounter before you find Paradiz Reef. Though Reborn & Paradiz Reef shared the same stretch of road, the name of road for Paradiz Reef is Balestier Rd. Just put aside the difference in road names and followed the advice that I had given and in no time you will find Reborn and Paradiz Reef. Happy Scouting Around
  3. Ok! Thks for the feedback. I believe the new post can help those who have difficulties in finding LFS.
  4. Terryz_, let me give you the clearest instructions about the ways to go to Sealife, Paradiz Reef and Reborn. 1. Sealife: Nearest MRT station is Toa Payoh or Boon Keng. If not after you find Reborn, you could take bus no. 145 along Lavender Rd and proceed straight to Sealife .Please alight at the bust stop after Shaw Plaza. The place is located near to Hoover Hotel. 5. I also know the address of Petmart but is clueless about going there. Anyone here can help, for example the nearest MRT station and buses that could lead us there?
  6. Flame Angel is sensitive to fluctuations in water parameters and as such, care must be taken to ensure that your water is of good quality. It is best to start off with those hardy fishes before progressing to Flame Angel or other angel fishes. And since we are discussing about Flame Angel, I would also want to find out whether it is okay to add a Flame Ange to a tank that has a Coral Beauty.
  7. Hi Bwilly Thanks for the info! Where could I get the timer that you had mentioned?
  8. From my experience, I would list the following clownfishes as aggressive. The top in the list being most aggressive and the bottom being the least or timid. 1. Tomato 2. Maroon 3. African 4. Yellow and brown clownfish (sorry can't remember it general name) 5. False Percula 6. True Percula As to why they are called according to their names, probably any experts here want to clarify?
  9. The clownfish was eating well during the day of its death. During the early part of that night, it was hiding at the back of the tank where there are a lot of rocks. It usually won't stay there for long and will linger around the area where the bubble coral reside. This has been it's practice for so long. I guess, it must be my fault coz I forgot to on the night lights and as such the fish could not see properly & bumped into the bubble coral.
  10. That's the problem with wondering anemones. Last time, my deceased, yellow bleached anemone, can stop wondering around the tank. Finally, of all places, it make itself home near to a suction pipe in my tank that was linked to my canister filter. You could guess what happened next. Some of its tentacles got stuck in the suction pipe and in the process of trying to relieve it from its predicament, it was ripped by my tugging and the force of the suction that drawed water from the tank. I should have known better & switched off the canister but in my haste to save the inveterbrate I caused harm to it.
  11. Sorry, what I mean is that Cured Live Roacks are definitely safer.
  12. Are you referring to Uncured Live Rocks? Coz they are definitely safer.
  13. Tomato clown is especially aggressive to other clown fishes which are not of the same species. I used to have a Tomato clown and it always get irritated, aggresive and annoyed at the other clownfishes that got in its way. Ended up got to see "high speed chase movie", with the chaser being the Tomato clown. Often, the chasee will be the one getting hurt.
  14. My medium sized clownfish died coz got stuck in the jelly like substance of my bubble coral during the night. I guess it was too close to the stinging tentacles of the coral and thereby got "embraced" by the tentacles. When I on the lights, the left part of the clownfish was embedded in the coral while the other part was not. I had to gently release the dead fish from the bubble coral grasp and it was more than willing to let it go. The dead fish body, especially the head was engulfed in "glue". I'm just wondering if the rest of the members here had encountered such situation. And just out of curiousity, would Bubble Coral harm small fishes?
  15. I have been hearing a lot about this Rowapohs. Where do you get them and how much do they cost? Also, could enlighten the difference between its close "cousin", Contrapohs?
  16. Could I know where you get you Cowrie snail?
  17. It is near Boon Keng MRT, exit C. Also near to Paradiz Reef, as they share the same stretch of road though of different road names.
  18. Don't underestimate Chemi-Pure. Just because there is a claim that there is no need for water change, we will have to follow the claim. BTW, the claim is made by those people marketing the product in Singapore and it is mentioned in the green sticker with a Luohan fish on it. The intention is to target those Luohan enthusiasts to buy this product which is actually more suitable for marine fish. I think because of this sticker, the reliability of this product is under fire. I sincerely believe those marketing people need to be fired from their job coz they had done so much to defame this product. You could only see the claim mentioned here in Singapore and nowhere else. As such, please do your regular water changes like I did, in addition to adding this product as part of your chemical filtration. Hope this clarify the doubts that have been spreading like wild fire about the reliability of this product.
  19. My tank is covered with a hood, but there is a wide rectangular opening for feeding and to cool down the temperature from the heat emitted by the light. From my viewpoint, it is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes to hide all those equipment placed on top of the tank (e.g lights, fans, etc, etc). Moreover, I got wood carvings near my tank and I don't want to get them damage by accidental splashing of saltwater. It is best if you could have a custom made cover done for your fish tank that incorporates lighting and fan fixtures and so on. However, it will add up to your total costs in this hobby. But think of the long term, for example you or your family might keep a pet like a dog or cat in the future and a cover will protect your investment from these pets. Also, visiting children to your home can be devoid of the chance of meddling with your tank, especially the top part and thus relieve you of the worry of having to be constantly on guard whenever they are around.
  20. Tried looking for the post done by Maxima but was unsuccesful. Perhaps the records were wiped out during the closure of the forum a few weeks back. Could anyone, assist me by informing me how to get the snails shown by AT, if Maxima is no longer available?
  21. I got 2kg worth of salt for $14. Different package size different price.
  22. For those staying north, you could also get it at Aqu*ta* at Yishun Central, Blk 934.
  23. Also went to Aqua*ta* last Sunday. I saw that lady mentioned by one of the brothers here, selling some "nemos" to some gleeful children who were accompanied by two adults. I think they know nuts about advising those people on how to keep their fishes as they don't have the time explaining and are more interested in sales. But nevertheless, I'm quite happy browsing their stock. They have quite extensive range of aquarium peripherals at reasonable price. Best of all they are selling the Marine Environment salt mix ($14/- for 2kg) that has been rated almost 100% close to natural seawater by an independent audit in the USA as the best salt mix around. Got one myself and yet to mix it. Also went to Marine I*ag* which had just rented a small shop for the marine fish section, compared with their pet shop nearby. I can't believe this shop, it is so small, yet it still want to set up a partition to display a few puppies to onlookers. The shop owners didn't realised that people went in to see what's in store for them and not to see those doggies. If they want to put doggies around, their pet shop is just right infront to house them. That section could be used to stock marine equipment, etc, etc. With that kind of setup, they still want to advise newbies on setting up marine aquariums and how are those newbies (considering their limited knowledge of LFS ard) suppose to get the right stuff when they can't even provide some of the basics. I also got to see their live rocks which look dull because they don't have that good corraline algae.
  24. Where could I buy the coral food, Marine Snow that you had mentioned?
