  1. i presently only have one moorish idol I have quite a number of fishes in my tank already 1 regal 1 moorish idol 7 damsels 1 maroon clown 1 chevron tang 1 regal blue tang 1 scorpion or stone fish which i caught in east coast(very small) 1 coral beauty they sometimes move in huge shoals in the sea but then again solitary specimens can be seen also their behaviour is sometimes confusing to marine biologists and having a shoal in the tank would not really be advisable as there will be 1 specimen dominating the rest.(same as the case of powder blue tang) and the rest will be harrassed. I tried to keep 2 at 1 time before It did not survive in the end, as they kept fighting and also did not feed. but now it's ok as i keep only 1 in my tank and it is extremely peace-loving.
  2. HAHAHAHAHA so I see........ X-Japan is my fave all time japanese rock group which has since disbanded a long time ago after the lead guitarist killed himself. Hahahaha So i just decided to use this nick
  3. I sincerely believe that too..... maybe my tank something in it that could make it survive and want to eat if u wan, u could come over to take a look though
  4. To each his own, HQX..... every reefer here has personal views on nano tanks for me i personally feel that it is harder to keep a small tank. It needs this higher amount of attention paid to it than having a big tank. Most people like big tanks as they can have the capability to keep more things inside.
  5. wah seh!! thatt's not a Sea Cucumber!!! that's a sea slug lah!!
  6. 1. Make sure there are not much boisterous fishes around as they may nip at the fins of these less aggressive fishes. 2. Make sure the water quality is good. i mean these are the most basic for all fishes of course. my temperature is 28 deg C I keep these fishes in a 3 feet tank... And I do not have a digital cam. this is why until now I do not have pics of my tank online anywhere. I feed my fishes a variety of pellets at 1st i fed them with tubifex worms. now all my fishes in my tank are weaned off to pellets. Hikari Marine S, OTTO anti Bacterial floating pellets, HBH Spirulina Moist and soft pellets, HBH Krill soft and moist pellets, another 1 is a taiwan brand which I am not too sure. but my Moorish Idol and regal whacks everything I throw in now. brine shrimp, mysis, pellets, worms, finely chopped prawns.
  7. yes i have to agree because most of these fishes do not adapt to life in captivty readily and unless you have sufficient experience to keep most fishes please do not try it
  8. Moorish Idol is indeed very hard to keep.......... tried to keep it for about 10 times before this time it finally survived but luck has been good to me... I kept it alive in my tank for about 8 mths already~~ As my fave fish of all is the moorish idol.. I also have a regal angel in my reef tank
  9. wah...... well in that case, you might have had a bad hammer.... which was already not really doing that well.... or else it just couldn't get used to the tank's condition.
  10. oh really..... ic..... well well..... what are your tank conditions?
  11. hmm.............. another case of RTN, I believe..... Recessing tissue..... well, it happened to me in the past, but not anymore. Do you dose your tank with calcium or anything else?? it could be because of no calcium. I have a hammer in my tank and it had since split into 2 branches already.
  12. newdamsel, the new pic which you posted is when the Galaxea has opened up fully. And AT is right. It STINGS other corals which causes them to shrink up INSTANTLY if put too close to one another. But apart from all this.....I personally think that it looks quite nice.
  13. 1st pic looks like a galaxea fascularis.... 2nd pic of yours is a sea squirt the sea squirt benefits from feedings of liquid food. I kept mine alive in my tank for 2 yrs already. Galaxea is Photosythethic, and can supplement it with BBS.
  14. to be precise about the liverock question...... Can u imagine if people were to keep pulling out bricks from the flat that we were staying at?? sooner or later, the whole flat would just collapse, wouldn't it? and the people who take LR out of the reefs would take it at the bottom of the reef, not at the top. it's the same right? sooner or later the whole reef would collapse due to insufficient rocks at the bottom to hold the top. This was a report that I read in a national geographic quite a few years ago. This might be the reason why CITES ban LR...... even if you were to dump back rocks from terrestial origin, it's not the same. even if you put back how many tons also, it would never be the same how the reef is like normally.
  15. you could try to go to Aquamart to look for PLs. they have lots there. it is located at PAya Lebar beside Reborn.
  16. Achilles Tang, U still remember that last time when we went to Coral frarm together, and I was telling u that in Japan's Underwater world, they had a whale shark on display??? well I found the pics at long last wanted to show u this pics that time Anyway the aquarium is in Osaka the name is Osaka Aquarium( Ring Of Fire ) hell of big place! the tank in which the whale shark is situated is 4 storeys high!!! the 2nd pic can be seen...The whale shark is in the middle of the brochure and the tank is situated from the top of the building to the bottom In the tank which the whale shark is, there are many other kinds of fishes like HUGE!!! potato cods( 3.5m long), eagle rays, angel Sharks, etc etc. They had smaller version of the giant spider crab and they kept Thousands of SardineS!!!! they also had a sunfish on display~~ actually I took a pic of of me together with the whale shark but.......well i dun look good so I think its ok not to put it.....hehehe it's a real nice place to go, so if u are ever in Kansai Area for a holiday, go and drop by for a look!!!!
  17. apparently their culture is not to bury a person but to cut up his body and make it piece by piece like legs is another thing hands are another thing which is why u see the the innards are sorted differently after which when they feed it to the vultures, and they fly back up to the sky and soar, they hope the spirit will be lifted high up in the sky and find it's way to heaven. it seems cruel and desecrating, but this is their culture dating hundreds of years ago
  18. yes really........... its true i have to agree with AT it's practically impossible the mouth of a seahorse can only eat food a few hundred microns long!!! while a new born baby seahorse mouth is the length of 35 microns long which means they can eat food only a bit smaller how can it be possible that he eats those freshwater shrimps?!?!? unless u take really the smallest of the smallest shrimps then ............ i dunno liao
