Lighting Rotation

Recommended Posts

I've got 4 x t5 actnic blue (on for 10am-10pm) and 2 x 250watt MH (10am-5pm) planning for sps on my 5 footer tank. Are my aquarium lights on for too long? Currently i've noticed some hairy algae on my LR.

Yes too long, actnic blue 9 hrs will do, for mh 4-6hrs will do. how old is your tank? If starting then should be quite common to have algae.

Then it is quite common to have algae since it is only 1 mth old. Just reduce the lighting hrs and the algae should reduce. for hair aglae, sea hare is good, good to get a mix of cleaning crew to clear up the rest of the aglae.

I scrub the algae off when i am doing water change. put the rock in the water you just took out, then scrub off. put back immediately after.

watch your phosphate and nitrate levels. new tank can use some phosphate remover if high.... i used seachem phosguard.... quite ok
