Should I be worried?

Hi,

I got some LR from a kind reefer, to start my tank cycling. There was some green algae on the LR, which I think is natural, so didn't really bother about it.

Now I'm into the 4th week of cycling and the green algae has spread quite a lot.

Can anyone identify if this is just some common algae or should I be worried about it?

What is the best way to remove it?

check PO4 level bro.

be careful as even if the po4 level reads 0, it could be due to that the algae are consuming it.

step up with the water changes, 10-15% per week if possible and change GFO regularly. Skim wet, add carbon too as cautionary measure. Off lightings if possible or reduce photoperiod drastically.

some RC reefers recommend increasing Mg levels to 1600 for a few weeks but if you are not 100% sure, do not try as it might not be safe for tank inhabitants.

Turbo snails are great in controlling hair algae, $1 each from the farms.

If you are still cycling and have not done the 50% water change, then moniter after the water change and off all the light while cycling..

just off the light during cycling.

do a 50% water change after that and check for P04.

Without light, algae wouldnt grow .
