SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 Hi guys, I have recently started a simple zoo garden and came into this problem: the zoos look a lot less stunning under leds than under t5s. I feel the color doesn't show properly and I don't want to buy a to lighting so I would want to know what kind of white blue colour combinations you guys use which makes their colors "pop". It would also be nice for some experts to explain how they position their zoos to get the best color out of them. Thanks!
SRC Member Aquareef123 Posted February 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 tack along. I use a razor and I find that you have to play around with the white and blue combination to get the luminous color of the zoas. Usuall 40% white and 100% blue works for me. SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 17, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 I use the same brand of lighting and currently use 60% white and 100% blue. Doesn't look that great to me. I'll try 40% white maybe that will make it a bit better
SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 17, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 Update: tried it, better but I'm still not happy with it
SRC Member Aquareef123 Posted February 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 try to lower the white then. 30%, if not 20%. If not, then change to t5. I have 2 units of Giesmann 5ft t5 if you are interested.
SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 17, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 5 feet is too big for my tank. Anyways I experimented and 40% is the best. I just have to wait and see what other people's opinions are too
SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 17, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 17, 2014 Update: I shifted the led above the rock and changed the direction it is facing and the colors look a lot better. However it's still not as good as I hope it to be. Guess the only way now is to save for a t5

Oh and I don't think I wrote that they are stressed earlier :/ anyways I think one of the reasons why they aren't "popping" is probably because they haven't adjusted to the light yet. And after I changed the orientation of the light I think the problem may have been fixed
sherman
Most zoo do not need very strong light and current. 3 BL and 2 white with UV and red led will make your LS stand out if they are opening up Quote 6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08) 4*2*2 + 2.5*1.25*1.25 (Decomn on 1/8/09) 5*2*2 (Fully LED light system, 140 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 2.5*2*2(Fully LED Light System,96 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 5*2.5*2(LED only) Eheim return 1 * pump 1 HP Daikin compressor with cooling coil 2 Jebao OW40, 1 ecotech MP40, 1X6085 Tunze wm, 1 CURVE 7 Skimmer 1 DIY 80 led control by Bluefish mini 1 radion XR30W G2, 2 Radion XR15G3 Sump area lite by 5 ft T5 , 6 * SSC 3 watt red LED for refugium 1 Full spectrum E27 led light 1 CR control by bubble count Start No Water Change since 1st Dec 2016 Add new 2.5x2x 1.5 ft [/quote]
Jameshong
IMO, UV and indigo/violet plus some red will pop out the colour of the coral. Quote Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. - Goethe

SRC Member peacemaker Posted February 18, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted February 18, 2014 Quas111, did you get the wide angle reflectors for your Razor? I felt the spread and the mix between colours is better.

SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 18, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 18, 2014 Update: turns out that the reason why the corals look different is because of the glass and not the lights. When I put the corals near the water surface they look more stunning
SRC Member Quas111 Posted February 18, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 18, 2014 Hmm razor has all the colors so it wouldn't mean that the lighting spectrum is insufficient.
