Hi all,

finally got hold of a digital cam to take a few pics of my tank!

My tank has been setup for 4 mths already. As i'm on a tight budget, most of my equipment is on the low end to mid range. As I'm always away in my hostel, i only come back on the weekends to take care of my tank! well here goes...

Chemical filtration:

Seachem carbon 250ml

Seachem phosphate 250ml (i know both not enuf!)

Biological filtration:

20kg of LR

50kg Live sand

Mechanical Filtration:

3 feet sump with 7 inch DSB

Weipro skimmer 2012 using cheapo dolphin powerhead(works quite well amazingly!)

Additives:

Red Sea Salt

Kalkwassar (dunno some german brand)

Tank conditions:

Nitrate 12.5 (using tetra testkit)

Calcium at 450ppm (using JBL testkit)

The rest i never buy test kit!

Pumps:

Hailea 6540 1770l/hr (which i think is not enuf!)

Alife powerhead for circulation 3200l/hr

Livestock:

1 tube anemone

1 purple tip anemone

1 jewel stone LPS(think it's called goni something)

1 regal tang

1 firefish

1 tomato clown

1 red perch

1 brazillian royal gramma

10 red legged hermit crabs

2 turbo snails

1 topshell

2 cleaner shrimp

1 reef lobster(always hiding!)

1 orange gorgonian

Right now still saving up for aother powerhead and A large bottle of Seachem Phosgaurd. Phew! As u can see, I'm plagued with diatom, cyano, green hair algae since mth 2!!! :(

your LR's are stacked very nicely.... :eyebrow: well done bro! One of the best arrangements I've seen in this forum. Don't rush in filling your tank with inverts and take your time. Not wise as you only come home during the weekends to see to it. What you have now is good enough to cycle. Your sump has water filled almost right to the top.....try and lower it a bit. Overall a very neat tank set-up..... :D

thanks everyone!

May i ask how long it take to cycle my tank?

Been cycling for ard 3 mths liao...

Still plagued with algae prob!

my nitrates are pretty low..

Thing is i dun do water change, i'm afraid fresh tapwater will just increase the phosphate again which has decreased over time.

hey bro,

i think your algae problem is there to stay or another few months, it would a long long time for the tank to be stable.... if you are afraid to change the water due to phosphate, maybe you couold use distilled water?

anyway, you got a nice tank there... and i think it's made even tougher as you mentioned that u are on a tight budget.... actually, when you are tight on budget, i think u tend to learn more,,, coz u wun rush into using money for quick solutions, rite?

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok here's my update of my tank as of today!

1)Added another 3200l/hr Alife powerhead

so right no I have 2 x 3200l/hr Powerhead in addition to my Hailea pump of 1700l/hr!

2)Added Seachem matrix carbon

3)Added 250ml of Rowaphos.

I must say Rowaphos works wonders! It cleared up all my algae prob within a week! U must use it to believe it! Well worth the investment definitely. Now I can see the colours of my tank again, without the @#$@ algae covering everything b4.

4)Bought a brazillian gramma..

5)Added a few corals- octopus (look like hammer coral one)

- Yellow polyp

- Green butons

- Pulsing Xenia

6)Added 10 red legged hermit crabs

They are very fun to watch and keeps ur tank super clean!

;)
