maybe u need to check yr po4 level to verify if the media is really turning yellow too fast. Refugium to remove po4 I suppose can but slower than chemical filtration.

Tank size:36"x36"x24"

Return pump" 2x Reef Octo 5000

Skimmer:BK Double Cone 200 on Reef Octopus DC 5500s.

Wavemaker:2xVortech MP40wES

Chemical filtration:1xeducator FR(biopellets)

Chiller:1hp Daikin compressor.

Lighting:2 x Kessil A360we

Auto topup system: JBJ ATO + new jet 1200

Dosing system: Kamoer 3 channel.

Additives: ESV 2 part.

Power consumption

2XReef Octo 5000: 120watts

Are u running activated carbon ? Running AC will help the ultraphos to not exhaust so fast

Ac is activated carbon.

Maybe u need to observe the rate the ultraphos turns yellow, ie when yr po4 drops to zero, does it still turn yellow?

Also depends on the po4 input to your tank. If u feed alot, then naturally yr ultraphos will exhaust faster.

some pple run ac 24/7, while some run occasionally.

Carbon can neutralise toxins so pple use them.

When yr water has the yellow tint, running carbon can remove the tint.

Seems like can remove no3 as well.

But studies has show carbon particles cause HLLE head line lateral erosion, something like tat. So I use carbon in a bag rather than tumbling cos im concern if the friction will slowly grind the carbon bits to some powder.

Ac will contribute in prolonging the life of your ultraphos too. As ultraphos have organic/chemicals absorbing abilities like AC.

im having a mixed reef so I use carbon. Some swear by it, some dun feel there's any impact. But carbon has much more pros n little bit con(HLLE). But doesn't mean u use carbon yr fish will have HLLE. Previously affect blue tang more.
