SRC Member Angel Keeper Posted August 25, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 25, 2014 You need to have constant supply of algae to feed this sea hare...
qianjun
It is a sea hare. .. cost less than $10... Ya, they finish your algea very quickly. .. It cleans my sand bed very well... also cleans my rock, zoas and glass wall but not as sparkling as the sand bed.

Planted
Usually in home aquarium, it just die off after finishing the algae as there is not enough algae supply. I am also tempted to get one but in the phase of reading up. Bro qianjun, what do u feed it with after it serves it's purpose?
qianjun
If not enough algea they will kinda shrink. .. but you can feed them with lettuce or pass to the next reefer with issues. .. haha. ..
CFOh
Need to take note on setup with sea hare..Similarly to anemone, sea hare quite easy to enter in Wavemaker. Cheers and Happy Reefing. SRC Member Clement Chen Posted August 28, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted August 28, 2014 I have been reading and there seems to be mixed opinions. It seems like if they die they might crash the tank. qianjun
Ya wave maker can be dangerous. I wander if those colorful slugs serve the same purpose. ..they seem much more beautiful. ..

yellowtang
Let me share with you my experience with sea hare. It's a Ulgy but hardworking animal. It has a beautiful rabbit face but a turned off body. It moves around, but unlike the anemone, it will not be shredded by the wave maker. Why? Because it has a head and once it's head is stick in the grills of the wavemaker, the whole body will stiffen . It will just stuck like that. Head in, body out. Don't try to pull it out. The harder you try, the harder it becomes. Then it will release purple ink from it's back. It's harmless. What I did was to turn off the wavemaker and leave it at the sand bed. The hare will manage its way out. So it's not true that it will face the same fate as an anemone trapped in the wave maker and poison the whole tank. A useful animal. qianjun
Nice sharing. .. Anybody knows if those white slugs serve the same purpose?
SRC Member mechgobi Posted September 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted September 17, 2014 Should be an amazing helper.. Do they feed on home greenery, if algae in the tank is exhausted .. may be like spirulina powder or lettuce etc., ?
SRC Member tonyhawke Posted July 1, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted July 1, 2015 Tried sea slug and tuxedo urchin. Sea slug died after a short while without doing much help. My tuxedo urchin cleared every inch of hair algae in my tank but be prepared that it will "steal" some of your loose corals and move around with them as well. Planted
When urchin die, their spike gonna cause a mess in the sand. Unsightly. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
