T5 or LEDs

I'm wondering which would be better for colouration and growth of sps corals because I'm looking to change my lighting. Bumy t5 im talking about ati t5 and for led I'm talking about the high end ones like maxspect,hydra or vega

Personally I prefer T5. Used led light for cheato before but the growth just wasn't there. Changed back to normal warm light and it worked well. So stuck to T5s for display tank. Have seen guys here using led for main tank and worked though.

T5 confirm work. But good Led set is catching up. High end like Orphek and AI . Reasonably price like Maxspect, Eshine, i-galaxy and many other are also performing great.

I was thinking of getting 6 bulbs t5 for a 4 2 2 is that okay? I'm not too sure if i want LEDs but i hear that the electricity bill won't shoot up compared to t5s

Try to get a second hand T5 at Pasar malam. 6 tubes should be ok for fowler.

No I'm going to be setting up a sps dominant tank. How many tubes do i need to get

For SPS you need 8 to 10 tubes.

You need white, blue and voilet

I think the issue with using LEDs for chaeto is the fact that chaeto thrives on blue and red light.

Single LED chips only give out a very narrow band in the spectrum. It must be noted that the colour temperature (6500k, 5500k) etc is really just a measurement based on perception of the colour of the light rather than the actual bands in the spectrum. Thus the actual amount of light usable by chaeto given out by a 6500k LED may not constitute the same amount which is given out by a CFL bulb (which has a much broader spectrum). I've had great chaeto growth with a blue and red led bulb but almost nothing with a plain 6500k LED bulb.

The situation is probably different in a huge tank. Most LED fixtures utilise a mixture of different LED bulbs so a good fixture should theoretically be able to provide a "full spectrum" or at least light that is usable by the livestock.

I think that LEDs do not have as high success rate as the T5's so far, so id stick to the T5.

Led history is short. Nothing compare to T5 or MH. But this 2 years u see more and more tank using LED with good growth and coloring. This show we now understand LED better.
