50W of halogen light is not equivalent to 50W of FL, PL of MH light.

The highest colour temperature available for GU.11 50W Halogen lamps is 5300K (BLV Whitestar). I use it in my kitchen and it's very dim.

thanx... but from wad i observe... some 50w halogen light really bright as MH bulb... anyway, do they need a ballast and transformer? it is stated, 50w 220-240v.

Our eyes sometime can play tricks on us. A lux meter will tell everythin....and its also abt par value we r tokin abt coz as wat Tanzy has mentioned, its only 5300K (Max)...too low for reef tank. FOWLR will do  . Lastly, if i m not wrong wat u mentioned requires a ballast to work but transformer (dun think nd coz its runnin on our normal voltage unless its a 110V then u will nd a step down transformer)
