Royal Gramma

Recommended Posts

Think it's rather easy to tell the difference between royal gramma and bicolor dottyback. It'll be harder to tell between royal gramma and brazilian gramma. That's what you should look out for. ;)

Always something more important than fish.

grammas and dottybacks are totally different.. can tell from their mouths, face, gradual fading of the 2 colours and dot on the dorsal fin.

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Just a word of advice don't put the brazillian and the dottyback together because the two of them are about the same size and colour

and they will fight and you will end up with only fish.

tot dottybacks are sleeker so therefore looks smaller what.. probably the dotty will die first.. :P

I agree,

Royal Grammas are very rare here. The recent imports are Brazalian Grammas, I bought two from ML. 1 for myself and 1 for a friend.

But can anyone advise on the diffrence between the two except the stripe on the eye? The infos I gotten from the limited books I had seems to point that there isn't more different in term of temperament and behaviour. Some even claim that they are the same species but different variation.

Please advise.

For that matter, don't put a dotty back in your tank if you can help it cos they are rather aggressive towards peaceful tankmates. Royal grammar threatens with its big mouth wide open but don't do much harm.

I totally agree with Mako,

For those that knows a little betwen the two (Dotty's & Grammas) they will know that Grammas although are bigger and look just as fierce, they do not cause fatality. Whereas for Dotty, I will not trust any of them in my tank! :D

Brazilian grammas are great fishes, they have great temperaments....yup....agree they will only show their big mouth to 'frighten' potential threats.........

but read somewhere they are still more aggressive than the Royal Grammas(loretos). Royal grammas can be kept together, but not brazilian grammas.

and.....If you keep a brazilian with a royal gramma ... ... chances of the the loreto suffering is rather high
