Maverick77
Hi everyone, re-starting this hobby and is looking around for equipment. Was reading and watching YouTube videos about skimmers and I would like to ask when the pump for the skimmer is spoilt, can I just look for a replacement pump of any brands with similar flow rate? Or must I get a replacement from the skimmer manufacturer?
SRC Supporter SubzeroLT Posted September 29, 2020 SRC Supporter Share Posted September 29, 2020 Most current models use internal pumps which have specific mounting holes or brackets => need to use back the same pump. Best to get a good skimmer from a reputable brand with local support. Quote Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/mysliceofnature/

SRC Member Evolutionz Posted September 29, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2020 IMO, a stable reef tank should have no issue without a skimmer for days if you have one that broke down. Unlike a chiller/return pump/wavemakers, skimmers are not the heart of the system. You might face an elevated nutrients level without skimming for days but that's about it. 1 Quote EvolutionZ's Floating Reef: (Decommed) EvolutionZ's 4ft shallow Mixed Reef Build :
