Lighting for SPS Tank

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am planning for mix reef.

I am not sure if the current lighting is sufficient.

I have hanged 250W MH and dont plan to change it.

In addition, planning to add 4 x T5 (2 Blue and 2 white)

but I am not sure if it is sufficient.

Please advise.

Currently using 250W SE. for my mainly LPS.

Huge MH. 2ft by 1ft.

It has wide area coverage.

Too troublesome to add another MH as the bracket has been mounted on the wall.

The easiest way is to add T5 which will sit nicely on top of the tank.

Before I embark on this T5, I have to make sure thet the T5 has to be sufficient to support mix reef tank.

If not later liao lui...

Sorry off-topic..

Saw that you have lots of tang in your tank...are you gonna let them go to keep SPS?

Sugi, I think should be no problem lah, your tank is 2ft deep plus you got DSB, T5 should be able to support. Only thing is you need to boost up your rockscape to maybe 3-5" from the water surface.........that way you can stack your sps from mid to higher grounds depending on different sps species & keep your LPS at Low to mid.........just my opinion :-)

If possible, go for 6 x T5 tubes, 3 tubes each side.

Finally,

Decided on the below configuration.

I left my 2 Actinic PL behind and add 4 X T5 on front side.

May be I will switch the PL position with the T5 as most of the SPS

will be stack towards the back end of the tank.

Did a change on the MH bulb from 20k to 10K

My tank looks at least 5x brighter with 10K BLV bulb.

I hope this is suffcient to keep SPS.
