Keeping Abalone in your tank

Hi all, now that my wife has bitten the aquarium bug, she asked if I could keep an abalone in my fish tank.  LOL!  Anyone done so successfully and also where can I find one?

The ones from LFS are the suitable species that will survive in our tanks (Oceana, Ah Beng, Iwarna, Coral Farm....)

Abalone are grazers. So the film of algae on the glass/rocks work great for them. I've had mine for 4yrs so far. I hear they can live to 10 years. 

It is different from the cold water species you see at supermarkets (eg. Sheng Siong). These won't survive in most of our tank setups.

They are great algae eaters but only move at night. You won't enjoy them in the tank if that's what you're aiming for.

Wow that is interesting. Abalone in the tank sure sounds yummy  

But if they are to be eating the algae and all in the tanks, is it safe for us to eat them?

Read that abalones are one of the best algae controller next to a stomatella(related to abalone but smaller and some have no shells) so I went to Oceania, bought up the last 2 they had:) last one only yesterday.. about 10cm big with a nice green shell. Go get one, u won't regret.

IMO chitons would be the best for algae, but you won't be able to remove it once introduced and i also haven't seen anyone selling it.
