my sump is rather small and inside the cabinet, can i place the skimmer outside , than extend the inlet hose through a hole at the back to the sump for the pump to drive. the hose will be about 1.5 to 2 meters long.

will the extension of the hose to the drive pump affect the performance of the skimmer, i'm talking about macro needle wheel skimmer.

the outlet will also be extend back to the sump, anyone tried that before please share your views and experiences. thanks.

It depends on what type of skimmer you use

Some skimmers are in sump units and some are ment for external placing

I place my beckett externally too

As for macro skimmers, so far I have not seen one that is external

Hi,

Wat's the width of the individual compartment? normal macro needle wheel r quite small to place in sump, it can also clip at the glass wall but the pump must be below the water level.

:)

the biggest compartment is 10inch by 12inch. but there is already an 1260 ehiem in side so limited space. what model of macro can fit in ?

was told by henry that for needle wheel not possible to place outside and extend the inlet to sump, cause pump not strong enough. for venturi can compensate by using a stronger pump.

You can raise the skimmer higher and use a bigger diameter return pipe.

Use a Tee at the outlet just before the to prevent siphoning effect.

Hi waileong, what do u mean by 'siphoning ' ?

i got a T junction for my macro needlewheel but still got the bubbles effect.

You know of other effective way to get rid of the bubbles ?

As i do not have a sump!

thanks..
