hi,

I have problem trying to tune my skimmer to obtain skimate. these are the steps which I had tried - -

1) Position the skimmer/pump higher and lower

2) Insert the airstone in the inlet tube ( to make the bubble smaller )

3) Shifting the skimmer from the 1st , 3rd and now 2nd compartment (suppose to be the most stable water level ) of my internal tank filter

4) tilting the pump facing upward and downwards... because of the space constraint in my compartment..

How long have you guys been running the skimmer before the first drop of skimates flow out?

I am thinking of changing the pump to a higher capacity...

below are some pic of my setup

any advise is appreciated!!

Hi Bro,

how many days of your skimmer ruuning since you kicks in.

brand new skimmer will takes couples of days due to some oil on parts like pump will makes it kicks it later.

I have mentioned others ways to tune the Macro skimmer in my thread recently. search for it and PM me and i can talk to you over phone.

cheers

Moxa

try setting the water level to between the 2 white lines i've drawn.

if you want to see if your skimmer is skimming, blend some market prawn meat and then throw into the compartment with the skimmer, and switch off the return pump. then you will see if your skimmer is working anot.

got some good tips from moxa, who call me through phone. Wow !! such a helpful reefer man... Thanks

Trying out some pointer like lowering the pump by extending the tube....

thanks again man..

any other pointer anyone like to share?

lowering the pump?

if my pump is on the bottom of the sump, my skimmer isn't skimming at all, have to put it about 3cm away from water surface. I think its crap design by Macro on this aspect because due to evaporation, the water level will fall to be very near the pump's inlet and there will be a loud ###### noise.

But i've also seen some reefers' macro and they have their pump all the way to the bottom and its still skimming well.

looks like there are a lot of lemons in their shipment.

Time to change skimmer liaoz.

hhmmm....AquaC EV-240 or the H&S F2001?

or the beckett from aquamarin?
