Ok folks, I am now in the "diatom" phase...

My sandbed is now covered with them... question is... do I clear them or leave it?

I have a DSB of 4"... and also, how long would it take for a DSB "nitrate export" function to kick in?

Tank Specs:

24" x 18" x 18"

Eheim Canister 2217

Sanders Proteim Skimmer

Salinity 1.023

pH 8.3

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 5

You can add a couple of snails to take care of the diatoms on the rock and glass but leave those on the sand alone. They should go away soon enough.

Is it diatom or cyano ? If it is diatom, it shouldn't be a problem just add some snail if cyano you have to gear up to fight the long battle.

Try control your feeding.

Siphon off the cyano from the sand every other day.

Switch lights on maybe alternate days

Change about 20 % of the water everyweek.

Try to keep your phosphate and nitrate down, as low as you can. You can try phosphate remover .
