Timer for Chiller?

Recommended Posts

  • SRC Member

Got a question... do u bros on the chiller for 24/7 or do u guys set timer for it? like only on during the hot hours like afternoon... need some advises for when to on n off the chiller using the timer.. like around what time to what time is the hottest?

currently im setting it at :

1030 - 1200

1300-1500

1600-1800

1900-2000

2100-2230

0100-0200

0400-0600

0830-1030

Will doing this cut down the electricity bill and are the timing correct? Advises needed.. thanks !

wired to a chiller is a thermostat controller to switch on/off ur compressor whenever it exceeds the upper/lower limit set for ur needs. u do not need a timer for ur chiller.

I am just wonder you have been looking for Resun 450-650 for quite a long time. Don't tell me you didn't do reading , learning before buying a chiller.

If you were looking for chiller just 1 - 2 days ago, I won't mind, however u have been looking for such a long time since May and didn't do home work and you expect our answer.

Please read more , learn more.

2 months plus looking for chiller.

Please remember, know what you need and how to do.

Keeping marine tank , reef tank is not a joke but need lot to read , learn, patient.

And on the top of that , digest what you had learned.

My words are hard , hope u will learn

Oh...because im running a 450 for my 4feet..but the kick in is about roughly 2 times an hour and will run for about 10 mins then cut off again.. so i thought if i use a timer n off the chiller for a few hours will cut down some electic cost... so recommendation is just leave the chiller on for 24/7 huh ?

And thanks lot bros who replied =)

Think logic,

when your chiller is off, than your light are on.

Temp go up.

Than..................

Chiller on by timer, by that time the water is 2-3 deg off,

chiller run and run, before reach to your set temp

timer off

lights are on

temp up and up

Chiller on by timer, by this time the water is 4-5 deg off,

chiller run and run , before reach to your set temp

timer off.

so on so on so on.

the obvious case now is that your chiller isn't powerful enough.

if you were to take a step back and recall, wat is the purpose of getting a chiller??

in between those cut off from the timer, won't the temp rise to unhealthy figures. And how do we know the if tomorrow is going to be cool or bloody hot weather to have preset the timer?

Correct me if I'm wrong ... The higher the HP or watts the higher the electrical bills, so it would be cost saving if we run a chiller on the correct volume (or size of the tank).

Does it also mean that different brands comsume energy differently (taking the same HP or watts of the same range on the same tank)

different brands consume electricity differently. like a CL650 against a Teco TW6, even though CL650 is only a 1/4hp, its 650W compare to TW6 of 420W(1/2hp, if i am not wrong)

its not easy to conclude on electrical cost saving, but running endlessly to cool down the tank, equipment gets worn down easily.

the higher the HP is...the lower the electrictit consumption..bcos the kick in time is much much more shorter....

correct me if im wrong...

my 2 cents.. :D

I ever heard of these HP and watts thing and dunno how it affect the electrical consumption ... But one thing for sure, the higher the watts generated, the higher the electrical consumption ...

Hope I'm right ...

hmm ... if u think the chiller on/off 2 time per hr is too many times,

then u shld take a look at ur chiller intake and output.

1) does ur chiller intake water and output them to the same

compartment in the sump?

eg, my chiller's pump is in the center compartment and output

is in the last compartment (others have theirs feedback directly to

the tank). In the setup, my chiller WILL on for a longer period of

time while chilling, but WILL rest longer too :P make sense??? :P

dun ask me if this is the best way, coz i do not know. I set up

what i think is best, that's all.

cheers

Pls take some time to go thru this.

LS, correct me please

there are two parameters

one is compressor rating

and

another is refrigeration rating.

Based on your calculation, mean refrignation rating is power consuming. Mean less power consuming than compressor.

So called CL650

which is 1/4 HP for compressor while 650W for refrigeration. So end up less than 1/5 HP in refrigeration. Mean CL650 consume only 149W of PUB bill :)
