Hi

Need your help.

Just bought a 2ft x 1ft x 1.5ft new tank with a sump of similiar specs.

Have a few burning questions to ask the experts here.

1) Thickness 6mm all round include base! <_<

Qn: Can the thickness, especially the base, take the weight? It's only 6mm thick.

2) Dymax 2000L/hr return pump.

Qn: Is it sufficient?

3) Two drilled holes. One is 2.2cm in diameter the other is 2.6cm.

Qn: Which one is for inflow & return? Heard the bigger one should use it for inflow to sump. Is this true?

4) The cuff attached to the base of the tank. Do you guys advise to add a gasket ( the dougnut like rubber use in water tap) between the joints, then glue it and add silicon? Or are there alternative method.

Thank you so much if any experts here can assist me on these.

bro...i believe 6mm isn't sufficient for a reef tank...it may crack anytime..

u may one to add the bracing on top to prevent it from cracking but stil not 100% safe...

my 2 cents..

1) Thickness 6mm all round include base!

Qn: Can the thickness, especially the base, take the weight? It's only 6mm thick.

ANS : Can but you only can have max 15KG LR. And try not to put

on the wall of the glass

2) Dymax 2000L/hr return pump.

Qn: Is it sufficient?

ANS : Yes more then enough

3) Two drilled holes. One is 2.2cm in diameter the other is 2.6cm.

Qn: Which one is for inflow & return? Heard the bigger one should use it for inflow to sump. Is this true?

ANS : Bigger hole is water flow to the sump.

4) The cuff attached to the base of the tank. Do you guys advise to add a gasket ( the dougnut like rubber use in water tap) between the joints, then glue it and add silicon? Or are there alternative method.

ANS : rubber will get hard over time. Best is use silicon.

Thank you so much if any experts here can assist me on these.

GOOD LUCK and Welcome to Reef World

Better you think twice on this thickness. I got one previously 30L X 15W X 18H with 6mm thickness and later after 3 months, the tank wall (glass) is bent for at least 5mm. Cuase the center bracing is no longer attached to one side.....

Then I have move all my LR and LS to a plastic container and caused my LS all up lorry and left only one boxer shrimp.

think twice, think twice........

My tank now is 8mm thick with 30L X 22W X 20H.

Still not very safe yet.. should go for 10mm.

You can try adding a thick plywood at the base to help support the weight. just below the styrofoam padding. You will definately have better support on the weight.

Of course then you have to make the necessary holes in the plywood for your pipings.

its not just the bottom... the sides as well.... for 2 feet tank....

safe bet is 8mm at least....

:( Already planning to order a 3ft tank... Frustrated when i 1st saw the thickness of the tanks.

Told the guy to custom make one & he seems to know... so left everything to him..... spend $120 on this excluding petrol, parking, labour and time mann...

When I confronted him, he told me 6mm all round for 2ft is more than enough....

My current 2ft run with cannister & is 6mm with 10mm base... so i though ok. But after asked around, ppl tell me tanks with drilled holes are different...
