that looks like 25ppm - 50ppm to me. thanks for sharing bros, its good info for unknowing reefers like me who thinks our tap water is good enough untreated. Makes me also wunder what long term effects high nitrate drinking water has on humans.

Clarkiiclown, yeah it can cost 40-70 per element that you test for. I tested my tap water for chlorine, phosphate, silicate and nitrate and I tested my reef tank water for nitrate, phosphate, iodide, chlorine, calcium, silicate, ammonium, nitrite, pH. Cost me about S$580 for all the tests.

It's a lot of money and I don't want to do it again, but given I had just spent several thousands setting up a 5 foot reef tank, i wanted to make sure all the parameters were good after 3 months. I just didn't trust the test kits from the LFS. The nitrate test kit I was using was telling me that my lightly stocked reef tank had 25-30 mg/L of nitrate - the lab told me it was 4.71 mg/L.

We use this lab during my work - they are international and reliable:

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)
