I don't think it's fair for us to just tag the TM shop based on its selling price. It's in a mall environment next to MRT. So very convenient to a lot of ppl, so when it comes to convenience... have to pay la. If not, can take a cab or cycle to Pasir Ris Farmway.

That shop is not specialized in marine anyway... so let's not scrutinize it until like that la... IMO TM is of a different category, not fair to compare to other LFS that setup up shop in some old shophouses at remote locations.

I bought my Nano Cube there, the service is good. He even offered me free modification to my 2 fans... delivery the next morning (less than 14 hours apart). I know he ordered the stock from somewhere... but the uncle is not too bad la... at least he can understand English! Pay him cash/nets, you will get discount.

To be fair to him, I bought my JBJ Digi-lab from him coz he offered me the cheapest price in town. Even RB cannot match that, RB told me that price is below cost... err... whatever...

Just my 2 cents, ya... don't get angry or mad if I have conflicting views with some of you guys... and I am NOT a TM supporter, only been there twice due to meeting around that area.

Well, I created this thread for the sole purpose of polling abt the "Prices" of the LFS in TM; on whether reefers find it cheap or expensive. Its a "POLL" to begin with, so any further discussions abt its reasons behind its prices (e.g. its in a Shopping centre, it has high rent, it has air-con, it has good customer services) would have been outta-topic. We're aware of the facts already. (i did mentioned b4 that since his shop already enjoyed high human traffic and exposure, all the more he shouldn't be channeling the cost upon customers.)

Another good reason for this poll is also to create awareness for new reefers who are unaware of the market rate. I hate to see new reefers buying a $850 nano cube full of cheapo $1 damsels or fishes like cardinals/ false grammas and told that its "maintenance free". There's already 2 reported cases and 1 near-case in SRC. Probably there's more that went unreported.

fyi also, the tanks / nano cubes complete with liverocks / fishes that are sold at TM are supplied by one of the LFS in pasir ris.

And since you even mentioned that the LFS in TM is NOT specialised in Marine fishes but Freshwater fishes, then ALL the more we should be cautioning new reefers.

I have to disagree with your response to my post.

Firstly, this poll is flawed to start with. I am just trying to inform the viewers about my very own experience with the TM shop. Btw, you should also share with us your real life experience with TM... coz I have yet to find any.

Secondly, you guys wanted this thread to stay on top of the page to warn newbies about TM shop... I still don't see why you guys have to do that to destroy a business... to be on the fair side, they didn't pursuade me to get the $850 package and they didn't even mention anything about "maintenance free".

Thirdly, let's not take side to any particular LFS... I know we all have our preferred LFS, but that doesn't mean that we have to stop other ppl from patronizing your least preferred LFS...

I hope my effort put in here will reflect a positive light to our viewers (especially newbies like me)... when it comes to trading... price ain't everything, so even if TM is slightly more expensive than other LFS (a claim that contradicts my experience btw) we shouldn't use words like "Patronize or not to Patronize?" or "Cautioning new reefers"... If that is the case, then it is certainly a very shallow view.

I think this is too much of a drama, and yes, customer service is very important to me. And if any of you want to share with me your bad experiences about TM shop (to convince that I am wrong) can PM me.

If u were to read the topic of the poll: "Prices of Tampines Mall B1 Fishshop".

bro Elune is doing us a favor by gathering the views of reefers who have been to that shop (thus we are aware of its prices, thus qualify to vote). The poll gathered the votes of 34 reefers and of these, over 90% of the captured votes rated expensive and above.

Elune's poll DID provided other choices "Competitive" (Neutral), "Affordable", and "Cheapest"; so I dun think this poll is flawed or one-sided.

Wat makes u think that your very SINGLE experience (even though good) with that TM shop it suffice to say that the poll is flawed? That poll merely gathered votes. Thats 34 votes in total, which means its the views of 34 reefers against your ONE experience. What flaw is there when the poll provided equal voting choices? and each reefers is free to vote?

I came upon this post few weeks ago and was surprise at the price people were quoting. Undaunted, i went to check it out myself at TM today. And my my, it is indeed bloody expensive. I'm sorry jervis just my 2 cents worth.

It is really expensive especially with the type of livestock inside. What's worse is the mini anemone inside. Come on such a small tank with little filtration equipment, how to sustain anemone for a beginning hobbyist? Will crash lo. Even for a pro, it will take up lots of time. If you are buying the nano tank from him, fair enough. If you are buying the whole setup for 850 bucks, i think is it too much to pay even if he gives good customer service which i admit they do give quite good customer service after inquiring about the nano tanks. Of course customer service is a plus point but not to the extent of paying so much for good customer service. With this money u can at least get a custom made 2 feet tank with stand, sump, decent skimmer, decent t5 lightings and still have a bit of money left to lim kopi.

Show this kind of money to more reputable LFS in singapore i think u will also get good customer service but better deal.

To make a poll fair, just indicate 2 choices "cheap" or "expensive", in this way, I don't think anyone would say that its unfair. To add on to something about LFS, I don't think prices is much for us to discuss as this is all and solely up to the owner himself. If the owner wants to sell it at high price, then just let it be, to buy or not to buy is up to the customer own wish, no one is forcing. In terms of the owners is targeting on beginners, I don't think he have the ability to force a beginner to buy, if one were to buy from his shop without checking out prices from other shops or farms, then it's his own loss. Just take for example if I were to buy a computer, for example I've got no knowledge at computer at all, I'll still surf the net, or if I have no internet, I'll go to areas that sell computers to compare prices before buying. Singapore is not that big, I'm sure most people who are interested in marine will at least know of a few LFS. Even if not a lot, at least 2 right?

But one thing I'm fully agree with bros/sis is that I really can't tolerate LFS owners that sell to people/beginners lots of fishes, telling them that they can survive, or probably use a damsel for cycing, all these are cruels. I hate it. I'm very sad to see many common clowns mati in newbie hands. They are suppose to be unique and cute fishes. But due to low pricing.....Haiz

O poor fishes died in the TM shop and the boss refused to return any money or claims to my student. He blame that the fish is in poor health not the water in his tank. How can he bully students?

My student is demoralize as his betta in high grade type.

Me too have bought fitration system from him for our school. And few days later it spoil. Either the undergravel filter crack or the filter engine got stuck or the temp probe not working.

We truly regret buying things for him. And actually in the progress to eliminate it from our supplier list for our school.

As for your school supplier listing, I think it will make a lot more sense for the school to deal direct with local/regional distributors instead as that can help avoid unnecessary disputes over pricing, service, quality of product and product knowledge.

ok wat I mean poor knowlege.. I'm abt to buy Pro-Series Sea Balance Part A and B.. so I went up to tat uncle and ask him wat is tis product for.. and he cant ans me but to give me brochure and juz tell me wat is in the brochure tells..

and tats 1 more time.. I think is his wife.. I went up to ask her Pro-Series Trace Elements is for.. and she told me is for fish health.. coz on the bottle its say "Marine Health"

at is point I'm very angry coz if they wan to sell something make sure they know their products WELL.. dun juz open shop and hope pple buy..

I'm agree wif manfiz say.. no one is forcing.. I dun think he have the ability to force pple to buy, if one were to buy from his shop without checking out prices from other shops then it's his own loss..
