45 cm in length ? then it should be roughly a 1.5 ft length tank.

Most protein skimmers would been kinda big for ur tank.

Wats ur budget like? U might wanna try one of those airstone-skimmers (around a red dollar note), or get a Weipro brand (2012?) skimmer (around 3-4 red dollar notes).

any other reefers can advise?

Ya agreed, you may be onlt able to use the airstone type, i have one rather thin and cheap cheap one (bought a think only $7) if you want i can give you free lah....or you have sump then can put others :P

depending on what you are keeping, if it is only a Fish_Only_With_Live_Rock (FOWLR) then a Weipro 2011 and a pump would be good and you can hang it on the side of your fish tank. And if you do it proper with the overflow then the tank can be partition in one with a "sump" where the water from the skimmer will return back to the main tank.

So this option cheap cheap and easy - a bluish note will be ok - provided you get Weipro from a fellow reefer 2nd hand. ;)

hi there princesseve,

id recommend either a

1) Red Sea Prizm skimmer (with overflow attachment)

2) a Biostar Flotor Skimmer

3) the Jebo Hang On Back Filter with attached venturi-type skimmer

these are all hang on back skimmer models, in that the water enters the skimmer via a suction column in your tank, is processed and skimmed in a housing externally before the outflow from the skimmer cascades back into your tank. i suggest these as for a 1.5ft tank, any internal skimmer will take up precious display real estate, plus marr the overall look. using a weipro or jebo branded type hang on skimmer that requires the placement of a pump within the tank is also quite space consuming and ugly.

for a view of how the prizm skimmer works, check out henry's display tank at marinelife. id recommend getting a second hand unit too, as they go for about $50-80 as opposed to $280 to $380 brand new.

cheers,

ian

Biostar Flotor Skimmer?? never heard before.. is performance good for a small tank ..

more importantly, how many red or blue notes are needed for a second hand? ;)
