SRC Member CooL_anakin Posted October 12, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 12, 2003 Eh.. Your tank looks a little dark for anemones. What light you using? Anemones need strong lighting and feeding(pieces of shrimp, fish, etc).

SRC Member hongqixian Posted October 12, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 12, 2003 No, it is not enough light. The anemone has already bleached a lot. At best, it will just manage to survive and not grow much. Your anemone is the bubble-tip, Entacmaea quadricolor ( if i remember right) and the coral is the Jewel/Flowerpot/Goniopora coral, Goniopora sp. It tends to die suddenly after abt 6 mths in captivity. Do a search about it on Sgreefclub.

SRC Member bum Posted October 15, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 15, 2003 anemones have symbiotic organisms called zooxanthellae that process light into food for the anemone. thats the gist of it... if there's not enough light and the anemone will expell the zoo... causing it to lose colour(bleach) and eventually die. same for your gonipora and most corals, they're photosynthetic. your bubbletip anemone seems ok IMO, but at most i'll say 2 weeks before it starts to deteriorate i'd either upgrade your lights or give/sell them away cos they will no last long under your specs.. i dun mean to burst your bubble dude.. but you might want to read up more.... SRC Member bum Posted October 15, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 15, 2003 truthfully? i don't know. i kept my anemone under 2 x 55W PL in about 1.5ft of water and it bleached. i fed it peeled prawns every other week though, still surviving...almost 1 year liao its now under 250w radium for a few weeks ... still yet to regain its colour
SRC Member hongqixian Posted October 16, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 16, 2003 what kind of light will then be suitable for a 2ft tank with anemone? It's hard to put strong lighting on a 2fter without boiling the water. That's the problem.
SpidermanX
Does that mean that if we give it food such as prawn regualrly, it won;t need to survive on photosynthesis? and it will live long.
SRC Member SharkBait Posted October 16, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 16, 2003 It just means it will waste away slower...
SRC Member seamonkee Posted October 16, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted October 16, 2003 Of all the species of corals & anemone, u have to get the two toughest to keep.... Good luck... u probably want to improve your lighting to up their survival rate. Not sure about the anemone though looking at its condition.
