SRC Member Tanzy Posted November 3, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 3, 2003 3 x 18 = 54 18W of FL light = 100W of Incandescent light 150W of MH light = 1500W of Incandescent light Quote Warning: Heavy handed moderator in operation. SRC Member SpiderOne Posted November 3, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 3, 2003 the energy saving bulbs. use only 18 watts. but claim to produce 100 watts etc. theres a lot more to diatoms than just light.. whats wrong with 6500k a lot of ppl use that . SRC Member Tanzy Posted November 3, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 3, 2003 Those energy saver bulbs are FL bulbs. Nothing special about them. The so called '100W' claim is comparing light intensity with an incandescent bulb but because of the design, I won't be surprised that it produces less light than a 18W FL tube. When manufacturers refer to the wattage of the lamp, they are talking about the power consumption and not the light output. Although light output is usually proportional to energy consumption, it is only comparable within the same class of lamps. Quote Warning: Heavy handed moderator in operation.
