with one head melting, u can take it out with care and caution then do an iodine dip.

quarantee the coral. find out the source of the prob. it can be caused by infection, too strong in current flow or temperature prob. u have a chiller ?

it's good to quarantee it before the prob get worse and when it spread to other heads and LPS. :D

Cheers. good luck.

thks. I have a chiller and temp is ard 26-27. The flow has been the same for the last 2 mths since i got it. how to know if it's due to bacteria infection? Anyway, I took it out and gave the melted head a good brush....hopefully, it will not infect the others

How long has it been ? is it a new addition ? If so, the bacteria could have been with it all along but exhibit the sympton only when u add into ur tank.

Or did it just show this sympton recently ? and recently did u add in any new stock ?

it could be possible that ur new stock carry this bacteria with it and infect ur hammer.

Due to bad practises, u can introduce pathogens and bad stuffs into ur water.

normal practise is to dip new stock then quarantee before adding to main tank.

if none of the above, something must be wrong with ur water parameters.

Or the current. the current may be like that for 2 months but u may not notice it along until recently it get worse.that's one possibility.

LPS can recover with proper care and nursing.

recently i bought an injured moon from a reefer, went back and i did a dip for it.

now it has recover and is happy in my tank.

u should take out ur hammer and quarantee it or pass it to ur friends to look after it for u.

or just sell it away.

My tank is cool by fan... avg temp 28-29 degrees...

Have a some bubble doing ok....

Is the above temp good enough for hammer?

:thanks:

its gd enough...ensure tt the current flow is nt too strong for the hammer and strong lightings to bring up the colour...it may be quite difficult at times for a temp at 29.. ;)

29C is around 80plus F. keep it at 75 to 79F...

higher temperature can caused bleaching of corals...the zoo bacterias will died off and ur corals will lose coloration. :D

use iodine solution for dipping...it has disinfecting effect.

always made it a practise to dip new corals to prevent wild bacteria and pathnogens form entering ur tank.

u can get seachem's coral dip, which is wat i am using...or lugol's solution...

nv do a freshwater dip on corals...esp LPS...it's a sucidal act..

anything else u need to know ?
