SRC Member angelfishlover Posted May 16, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted May 16, 2007 Hi,i kinda jus going to move from freshwater to marine. So i got an extra tank below my fw.This is what i planned for my 3ft tank. Equipments. 1)4 tube T5 lighting for 3 feet 39 watts. 2)Weipro 2011 protein skimmer+weipro 1000 powerhead. 3)1 small and 1 medium internal filters cause not going to stock very heavily. 4)Either a chiller or a fan.Can any1 decide for me??? Livestocks. 1)1 Mushroom coral polyp 2)1 Button polyps 3)1 Leather coral(soft coral) 4)1 Bubble tip anemone 5)Toadstool or finger coral. 6)1 Pair of Clark's Anemonefish(clownfish) 7)2-3 Firefishes 8)10kg of live rock.Is it enough??? The live rock some people in the american forum said that i need 31kg of live rock.So i am not sure.As for a fan some say sure gt salt residues all around including the blades. So i ave faith in chiller by 80%.Btw any1 knows the cheapest chiller for a 3 feet tank cause i am on a tight budget. All i noe that boyu chiller is $299.That is the cheapest and the light i am trying to get through my weekly allowance.I'm a 15 yr old kid btw so that is y i am on tight budget.Btw the soft corals on sale in one store they sell $6 per coral and it is still healthy. SRC Member hammerhd Posted May 17, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted May 17, 2007 1) Lighting is ok.(Also depending on the depth of the tank) 2) You need a stronger skimmer(Im using 2014 for my 2ft) 3)Suggest you used a cannister if you are going to use 2 internal filters 4) A chiller if you have $$ if not 2 fans will be good. The rocks are not enough. you need mimimum 30kg. Chiller - check the pasar malam section there are good deals there. mushroom/buttons usually is ard $

SRC Member angelfishlover Posted May 18, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 18, 2007 oh ya btw what temperature should i maintain. Most people in oher forums say i should maintain 25-28 degree celsius. Is it true???
SRC Member hammerhd Posted May 20, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted May 20, 2007 are u sure i need very strong skimmer cause most people say don't overskim the tank.Do i nid a sump cause i setting up by not having a sump. Not Neccesary a sump is needed. but a sump is better as 1) It increased your water volume. 2) It can hide a lot of things like your skimmer. FR etc. Temp it is best if you maintain it at 24-

SRC Member Underwater Posted May 24, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted May 24, 2007 Having a chiller has many benefits such as stable temp, lesser evaporation and having the low temp u want, as compared to a fan. But it is not a must to have chiller as i look at yr list, except for anemone which i've no experience. If you're on a tight budget, you can start up without a chiller and use a fan instead. Many of us also reef without chiller and using fan instead. Can always upgrade later if you want. There shldn't be any salt residue on yr fan unless salt water splashes onto it (which shd be unlikely) and evaporated. As tank water evaporates, the salt remains in the tank water, that's why we only add fresh water to top up, not topping up with salt water. Cheers... sherman
2011 should be ok if you do not stock heavily. I use to use it for my 4 footer without issue. Weipro 1000 is bulky and energy eater. If you can affort use the aquabee 2000 30 kg Live rock minimum ,more is better. I refer 50 kg Internal filter not recomend and not efficient. At least use a canister or two. sherman
Aqua Marin sell aquabee powerhead. I cannot remember the price liao. Do not buy yellow tail damsel or in fact all type of damsel. They are devil which you will regret one day.Keep other fishes. Salt water need more turnover than fleshwater. At least 10 times your tank volume. So I still recomend 2 canister filter. You must be patient in marine. You need to cycle for about 3 months and ensure NH3,NO2 and NO3 are zero before putting in LS. Do not rush or you will regret one day and have to waste a lot of unnecessary time money later Cheer Quote 6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08) 4*2*2 + 2.5*1.25*1.25 (Decomn on 1/8/09) 5*2*2 (Fully LED light system, 140 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 2.5*2*2(Fully LED Light System,96 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 5*2.5*2(LED only) Eheim return 1 * pump 1 HP Daikin compressor with cooling coil 2 Jebao OW40, 1 ecotech MP40, 1X6085 Tunze wm, 1 CURVE 7 Skimmer 1 DIY 80 led control by Bluefish mini 1 radion XR30W G2, 2 Radion XR15G3 Sump area lite by 5 ft T5 , 6 * SSC 3 watt red LED for refugium 1 Full spectrum E27 led light 1 CR control by bubble count Start No Water Change since 1st Dec 2016 Add new 2.5x2x 1.5 ft [/quote]
