Icic, :):)

However, since its a DSB, should not disrupt the tubberware often. Not that it will release toxin etc, but it will disrupt the anaerobic bacteria too if its moved too often.

Nah, juz running fishes only, work schedule long....

oh, used to used a remote DSB, in a coral life salt bucket !

Think 20 inch of sand.

But will certainly be useful when somehow someday one decides to abandon the DSB concept or tank decomm. Just lift up the tubberware lor.

I decom it though as there is some error in my DIY. The output should be bigger than my input. Cut the hole wrongly. Idea also leech from reef central, hehehe.

However, be warn that there have been cases of a nitrite spike in the initial stage of the remote DSB, last ard few hrs i think. One fellow kana, some of his fishes KO, but alot never. I also never. hehehee.

Bro, why will there be a nitrate spike during initial stage? Even if the sand is new? Sounds scary.

I have no idea, and its nitrite not nitrate loh, more deadly. Probably an isolated case, but since the search function in reef central is disable, I cannot search for you and justify the issue.

Anyway, It is gerenally safe and there have been alot of users.

Juz that....visual appeal = 0 . Haha, 1 ugly bucket.

:D

Btw, DSB takes quite long to kick in......so ermm...oh well... :)

Some updates.

While deciding which skimmer to upgrade....

Did some mod on my macro...

Gutter mod from reefcentral.

More testing done with the Macro skimmer mod.

Verdict.

1.The gutter mod do add more bubbles to the chamber.

2.However, the rate of bubble produce is not uniform. This results in the irregular rising of the bubbles to the collection cup. Sometime fast, sometimes slightly faster...

3. More bubbles but less uniform rise = bubble rised up slow.

Solution.

1. Original needlewheel's spoke must be cut. [Which is not done, no spare spoke around] This should ensure water to flow more smoothly, reducing irregular pattern.

2. 2 gutter wheel perform better than 3, guess more isn't always better. Key is to find the correct no. of layer.

3. This is not a reef octopus skimmer. Haha

:D:D

Final verdict,

After testing, I switch back to the un-mod version as the bubble rised more uniformly . Unless I get my hand on another Needlewheel spoke, then more testing could be done.

Test 2. More result after initial testing.

Revert back to putting two gutter.

Further tests had shown that it indeed produce more bubbles.

But the qn lies. Which is more important, the uniformity of the bubbles or the amount? The ultimate aim is less water , more air intake. Since Icannot adjust the air intake...I produce more bubble then.

Final verdict, run on 2 gutter wheel.

Shall see the skimate tml.

Nice tank! Really like the use of your tonga branches.
