Hi all

I have a 2 ft marine tank and have introduce quite a no. of corals and was told I have to maintain a proper calcium level in order for the corals to grow properly.

Bought KW & Calcium tester. Tested the water last night and surprised to find its is so high!!! 540!!! instead of the receommend 400-420!

Is it alright???? Could it because of the rusty water tank....I live in a HDB?? If not what should I do???

Apparantly now I am using the Marine Snow daily for the corals supplement. Is that enough?

Any advise?

Best Regards

1. First make sure your test kit are OK. Check the Ca and Kh value.

2. If it is really that high, that's because your dose Calcium blindly.

You need to balance your Alk and Calcium. If your case, too much Calcium and too little Alk. To solve this, you can do gradual water change.

3. If water change does not solve your problem, raise the Alk slowly to 14dKH until the Calcium precipitate. Then do water changes.

Sera, bought from Pet Mart and its the one and only they carry

hi yazid, my tank is coming close to 3 month and my kh is pretty stable at around 8.2-8.3.....honestly I havent even use the KW which I bought and only recently I thought about the calcium level in my tank.

I will try to measure the calcuim and Kh level again this evening.

Thanks for your advise.

Sera test kits seem to give the most inaccurate measurements from the many reports here in SRC.

Do a search! :)

I recommend Salifert test kits.

I an neutral to that statement.

In fact I have use a Salifert batch that is not accurate too.

I'm using SeaChem Ca testkit. Before that I'm have been using Sera, Kwik and Salifert..

All readings were almost identical for SeaChem, Sera and Kwik except for Salifert which is to way off.

I know Salifert is a good product but I happen to get the wrong batch.

SeaChem Ca testkit is using the titration method too.

Your Alk & Ca is not balance. IME, Ca 550ppm balance with Alk 14dKh.

I used to have this problem where Ca at 600ppm and Alk at 8dKH.
