sherman
bro sherman, why not power up the PL light and compare with the LED light? SRC Member prec Posted February 19, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted February 19, 2009 The electrical saving is (76-24) watt per hour.Or 1248 watt per day or 1.248 kw per day or 37.44 kw per month for a 24 G nano cube hmm bro so all in all say we are using the lights for 12hrs comparison (which is quite reasonable since no one switches on their lights for 24hrs a day), it will be saving 19.3kw per month which equates to $4.74 per month.. It seems insignificant but can u also provide us how much time cut does the chiller runtime has in terms of changing to LED?

I think still significant coz, after a year, you need to replace the tubes, but LED can keep on going for another few more years, may be 10 years based on 12hours per day operation, and LED will last 50K hours. Also, less heat will radiated onto the water, thereby saving more electricity to the chiller. I think with these new & better technology, LED is a way to go for reefing. It may be ard 1k or so for the unit for most tanks... That is why im rather interested in knowing how much the chiller runtime can be cut. But lets take it on the safe side we can take it as 75,000 hour. The heat dissipation is almost not there, now mainly is your pump or wavemaker heat. Would really be interested to see the difference between leds and t5s/mh. Very sori as I do not have enough data to provide this piece of info. And I believe how many time your chiller kick in depend on all the heat generate in your tank system. Heat is generate from light, wavemaker, return pumps and other pumps that is in your tank system. Reducing heat generate from light is only reducing one of the many heat generators in your tank. It will either reduce the number of kick in by your chiller or the duration before the chiller kick in. But by how much it depend your heat generate from light dominate how many percent of your total heat generate So its very hard to give a clear definite answer on this question Quote 6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08) 4*2*2 + 2.5*1.25*1.25 (Decomn on 1/8/09) 5*2*2 (Fully LED light system, 140 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 2.5*2*2(Fully LED Light System,96 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 5*2.5*2(LED only) Eheim return 1 * pump 1 HP Daikin compressor with cooling coil 2 Jebao OW40, 1 ecotech MP40, 1X6085 Tunze wm, 1 CURVE 7 Skimmer 1 DIY 80 led control by Bluefish mini 1 radion XR30W G2, 2 Radion XR15G3 Sump area lite by 5 ft T5 , 6 * SSC 3 watt red LED for refugium 1 Full spectrum E27 led light 1 CR control by bubble count Start No Water Change since 1st Dec 2016 Add new 2.5x2x 1.5 ft [/quote]
gny
Your hard DIY work has already make many reefers take notice on this frequentlly discuss lighting. Currrent commercial 'units' either not good enough or too expensive(the good ones). So your 'go further' will certainly make potential reefers to aproach you for possible lighting setups

DIY will surely reduce the initial investment. With reduced electric bill, reefing will be much affordable.
