The canister is in very good working condition. The surface extractor is an external equipment connected to the water inlet hose from the canister. This equipment allows water to be extracted not only from the lower region of the tank(without extractor), but also from the surface . This has the effect of removing the film of oil/protein that accumulates on the water surface.

The oil will not only affects the amount of light getting to the corals but also prevents beneficial air exchange.

The eihem brand extractor cost close to 30 bucks(I think) Not too sure of the market now.

There are people i know that use it for 3 ft. It has >1000litre/hour of turnover. Myself use it for my 2 footer. A little kiasu since it is considered a size up from the 2213 model.
