I finally managed to convince my wife to have a marine aquarium in the house :)

Those with have spouse with same interest have no idea how fortunate they are.

Anyway, I told her it will be a nano tank. It will be small and manageable.

Of course she was expecting a size more like pico and no... of course I did not clarify that :whistle

Else I will be posting on the pico tank thread now.

I was looking at the JBJ tanks and ADA ones... but fall back on a custom made acrylic tank due to the fact that I have kids at home.

Got this made from Denkebe Plastic. Thanks to Bro Dachkie for the recommendation.

Ian was non-responsive and Dama price was a little high.

So here's the pic of the tank just picked up.

Denkebe Plastics gave me 2 big piece (blue and black) of Oyama stickers because I could not decide which background I wanted.

Hmmm blue or black?

i would vote for blue becasue i feel the tank with blue background look brighter..

Thanks! Yup. she's my eldest princess.

I have a bad feeling that she is going to determine what goes into my tank.

regarding colour... umm too late. already pasted :paiseh:

your daughter so cute!!!! i choose your daughter. haha.

why not you try filling it with water (your tank), then put the blue behind, take a pic and admire it, change to black, take a picture, and admire it.

maybe after a while, you can decide. or seek your wife opinion to get her more into marine as she can start to decide, she will be more interested!

Was deciding on 6mm or 8mm acrylic.

Ended up paying a little more for a 8mm thickness just to be safe.

LOL... trying to steer clear of my wife on all matters involving my tank.

I will get kicked out of the house if she finds out how much this project cost.

Or probably I would get to sleep in my fish tank for the next 2 weeks.

OK back to the backdrop.

Ended up selecting the black cause

1) the Tunze Reefpack is black,

2) the K1 / MP10 is black

3) Wires are black

So they are not so obvious in a black background.

Also algae would be very obvious on a blue panel.

I would like to try to have to tank LOOK as clean as possible so black probably more in that aspect.

So on goes the black Oyama. Did this today.

No bubbles :eyebrow: Ha actually there is.... just that it is not visible here. :paiseh:

Did not have a sharp penknife so some of the edges were a little jagged.

I was using the large kitchen scissors. (Those that your mom use to cut chicken etc)

Got most of my stuff from AquaMarin.

Partial delivery today.

Black Sand. Thought 20 lbs would be enough... but wrong.

20lbs is including the water inside the packaging.

Need to order 2 more packets from them

I am going for just a shallow sandbed.

Bare bottom just doesn't seem right for me.

Bro, you sound like a patient and well researched reefer, I think this tank is worth looking forward to. Will be watching this thread... but you watch your back, don't let your wife throw you out haha ;)

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Nice project! & good choice on the black background :)

Glad you chose to custom make in the end... so are we gonna see LEDs for lightings? :eyebrow:

I am afraid I have to disappoint you for the time being, Comycus.

I am still pondering over LED or MH.

A small grp of us are planning to explore building an LED fixture with the assistance of Sherman.

I would also like to take a look at the KR2 Eco-lamps KR2.

Might be bringing my girl to HKG Disney next month so might pick up the KR2 and handcarry back should I decide to get one.

So still really fuzzy fuzzy about the lighting.

For the time being, I got 2 units of 1.5 ft T5.

patient cause I do not have enough time lol.....

a 3yr old princess, a 3 month old tyrant, my home affairs minister, world of warcraft, updating facebook, updating my girls blog, hong kong serials, my cycling hobby.... arhhh.... time not enough. Even posting of these few pics have to span over 6 - 7 hrs. Inbetween had to feed baby, bring my girl go cycling , wash baby bottles etc etc.... you get the picture.

Hehe.. but yah, this is my 4th tank actually so kindda know what to expect.

Does not have the impulse like during younger days.

For the time being, tease us more with your 'in the process' pics! dunno why I just dig following threads like this. n yours looks like a great start!

WOOHOO! Acrylic nano! NICE! :D

May I know what you are using to keep the tank surface algae-less and if possible, scratch-less? I never do much homework on this so hoping to hear your input (:

Happy Reefing,

Marc J.

Hi Marc, you are using acrylic too? I am expecting arrival of these items this week.

Bought them from Amazon US. I got a stack of the eraser cleaner. can spare one or two if you would like to try.

Ordered the K1 3 weeks back. Saw a posting that the MP10 is available.

So called up Janet and have her place an order for me.

Arrival in 2 - 3 weeks. Do not think I will be using this K1.

This K1 box was placed inside the tank at the black backdrop.

so sharp

"What is that huh, Daddy?" asked my girl.

Last but not least, the JBJ 24G Nano cabinet

Went hunting around for a low side table that can be used as a stand but unable to find one at a reasonable price.

The black background actually blend in well with the cabinet.

This is my probably my last update for the next 2 - 3 weeks.

Till my Tunze, MP10, and other stuff arrives.

Gotta wrap up the tank for the time being.

Any comments, suggestions , pls feel free to shoot them off here.

No offence will be taken
