anyone out there who are using algae scrubber willing to "open" their house for me to view???

spare me about 30mins only,

just wanna see how it works and what are the materials needed to set up one...

i know there's a thread here about it,

but with so many pages,

i really do not know where to start..

and the best way is to hear and see it from reefers who are having success with algae scrubber...

Bro I'm not sure if iwarna still sells their diy set, but good way to start as it safes u the hassle of running around to find the correct parts n all. Of course if you're a true blue diy-er, then it's prob cheaper to start from scratch.

tank kinda just settled down...

bought the black sand from aquamarin,

mix it with the black sand i used to use from iwarna...

prefer the one from iwarna,

the black colour is darker and nicer...

oh well.. have already mixed it.. shall just leave it..

not enough LR...

will be getting more LR....

just placing all my corals on the sand bed first...

when i get more LR i will re-scape the whole tank...

will be looking into more LS...

bigger tank, should be able to hold more LS :eyebrow:

pardon the poor quality pictures..

i know nuts about photoshop and photo quality..

it looks like I'm looking at a nano inside a nano!

Because you already have corals, when you get LR, be careful it doesn't lead to an ammonia spike from the die off!

hmmm definitely there will be some dieoffs..... how to prevent?

better standby a bottle of bacteria.

i threw in 4 tablets of bacteria starter 2 days ago....

the sand i bought from aquamarin, according to the package, its live sand and it'll have beneficial bacteria in it...

will not be getting any LS as yet..

will be monitoring the situation for around a week with ammonia alert.. haha....

thanks for the caution...

hope everyone survives the change... =/

What's in your sump now?

Just a thought : For the live rock when you are adding later, maybe can cure them in a tub 1st.

Hmm think still need a couple more to make it look more 3 dimensional.

At the moment, it seems a bit flat, more like a pillar of wall.

you can add over time -- especially on the right side. I do like the holes on your rockwork now.

the scaping looks abit flat to me. It should look nicer if you add more depth to it. I agree with Jacky, its more like a wall now than cosy home for your fishes.

I had alot of problems with my scaping. Find that it's easier with bigger, less rocks. Especially since you already have the tank set up, it might be useful to scape first outside the tank to get an idea of how you would like your scape to be, then transfer them into the tank :)

bro try to add liverock soon and either u use pure dead rocks, or try to move liverock over with v v minimum die offs.

and do rem add bac :)

hey bro if you add live rock directly will it cause a spike uh??

hmm very dangerous anyway bro kilo what brand of bac you use uh?

thanks

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

hmmm.. even with live sand and live rock it'll cause a spike?

how long does it take for ammonia to spike?

monitoring closely with ammonia alert everyday....

using Aquapharm Instant bacteria starter to dose weekly..

if u add in dead rocks directly, might cause a spike.

u can try to cycle new rocks separately first using ur tank water, then slowly add in few at a time.

Project R.E.

I think dead rock means totally devoid of all organism = cannot possibly have anymore dieoffs, therefore if you add them into your tank, won't cause a spike. But takes time for bacteria to colonize the LR, so you should dose bacteria.

If you add LR, the lesser amount of time spent out of water, the lesser die off. If you want to be certain, can just cycle the LR in a pail of saltwater, add a pump for some circulation. Can do water test on the pail of water to make sure ANN is fully cycled, and you can transfer it to your main tank. (I think this is only if you're extra kiasu)

btw, recommend you to get a proper test kit for more accurate readings, the ammonia alert thing works if its not past its expiry date, and once it detects and changes colour, your fishes prob up lorry already.
