Avoid Sungei Bedok canal & waters at East Coast: National Environment Agency

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is warning the public to avoid the Sungei Bedok Canal as well as the waters at East Coast Beach, after two sewage pumping mains near Sungei Bedok were damaged on Monday afternoon.

The NEA says the broken mains caused waste water to discharge into Sungei Bedok, and into the sea.

Seawater samples have since been taken for analysis, and as a precautionary measure, NEA is advising the public to stay clear from the affected areas till further notice.

This includes the stretch from the SAFRA Resort and Country Club to Bedok Jetty.

Meanwhile, repair works are underway and the PUB has disinfected the wastewater.

The overflow has also stopped and waste water diverted into the sewers since 6.30pm on Monday.

Water in Sungei Bedok canal safe after waste leakage

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said the water in the Sungei Bedok Canal is now safe.

On Monday, waste water from two damaged pipes leaked into the canal.

The Public Utilities Board stopped the leak by diverting the waste water into sewers.

Samples taken by the NEA on Tuesday showed that the water quality in Sungei Bedok canal has returned to normal.
