Pairing of True Percs

hey bros..

i understand this topic on "pairing of clownfishes" had been brought up a few times,

but after doing a search, the results i read didnt really gave me an answer...

i was at CF today..

bought 2 true percs seperately..

the bigger one was actually a paired one, but apparantly the male died,

so it was "alone" in the quarantine tank..

auntie was kind enough to let it go to me...

got a smaller true perc from those small bottles below...

it was packed into 2 different bags..

when i reached home,

placed both of them into a betta box..

didnt see much fighting,

but the smaller one had a tendency to jump alot..

i've read different methods of pairing clownfishes up..

first technique being introducing 2 juveniles together. With this technique two small juvenile clownfish are purchased at the same time and introduced into the tank at the same time. The fish will establish a dominate submissive relationship as they mature and eventually form a pair bond. however the bigger clown i got from the tank above, i doubt its a juvenile. how do you tell if its a juvenile by the way..? this method would work for me if you consider the bigger clown i got as a juvenile...

second technique of cos is by adding a new clownfish to an existing clownfish.. this however wont be the case for me as i bought both at the same time, and i'm currently housing them together in a betta box...

so, my question is,

after reading what i did, will my true percs eventually pair up? (since the female was paired up before, and the male died after that)

how long do u think i should keep them in the betta box together? thinking of 1month.. too long? too short?

kindly advice,

and thanks for reading all the way till here :thanks:

Bro, observe for a few days, as long as the big clown is not hostile to the small one, chance quite high. The small one may be stressed. Do monitor Their behavior(how they swim) and body for disease. Continue confinement till unsee the small clown and big clown swim together. It can take weeks. Some so called paired clown are also not real pair, just that they don't fight. So when buy pair, ensure no fight and torn fins, however, my maroon clown paired after the small one was whacked and later they got together. Lol.All the best.

make sure the male is still a reasonable size to fend for itself...

age does not really matter for pairing, however unsure for spawning...

just a curious note why do u put them in betta box? U intend to remove them if they dun pair ?

U might also want to check on why the male have the tendency to jump?

do u c the male tend to like to do a vibranting action on its side while with the female? Maybe your clown is still early for this as u just pair them..

thats what i read at RC too.. they'll go thru a period of fighting...

but so far so good...

shall monitor for about a month...

i just hope that they paired up,

its fine if they dont spawn, i wouldnt know how to handle their babies anyway.. haha..

nope..

i placed them together in the betta box, hoping that since they're confined in a small area,

the chance of pairing up maybe higher.. (cos they're added in together)

i wont remove them if they're not a pair.. i placed every new fish into the betta box to ensure that they're feeding before i release them..

however in this case i'm hoping that they will pair up..

the tendency for the male to jump only happened on the first day..

could be due to stress... i hope..

i shall monitor over time....

thanks for the advice bros

I've tried pairing afew times with my existing 2.5" true perc with smaller ones. But failed everytime.. I think maybe its because its harder to pair up once it's established in the tank.

Good luck for your pairing though

thanks..

but what if its introduced together?

so how's ur true percs now?

only left with the big one?

or one big one small,

just that both not paired..

might have a chance if introduced together, left with the big and dominant one. :whistle

Trap the big one in a betta box or a floating cage. Release the small one. Wait 5-7 days before releasing the big one. If still fight continue doing this until it stops.

Always something more important than fish.
