My 1st 3 Feet tank mini project

Hi all,

i have ordered a 3ft x 2 ft x 2 ft tank (8mm imported glass) with a 2ft x 2 ft x 1.5ft sump

- i have attached a pix of the design layout of my setup, will this work?

- is the sand bed thick enough?

- how much live rock should i get?

i will slowly plan out the LS to put in. btw should i put fish 1st or corals?

- for wave maker, wat rating or how many gallons/litres per hour should i get?

- for chiller, wat rating should i get? can anyone recommend a cheap one=P

heh..NO3 is not the main factor that would bring down the tank

anyone here tried relying on DSB only in a sump and able to maintain NO3 at near to zero?

the ones I've seen so far have done away with fanciful skimmers. the only thing hightech is probably the pump and the lights.

did I forget to mention that its combined with a refugium? in all cases. oops missed out that point.

I would'nt recommend you using UV in a reef tank..for a FOWLR tank it would be ok..but in a reef tank UV will probably kill everything beneficial as well.....

if i get a power head 1600 litres per hour to make current in the tank izzit enough?

throw away the cotton, it will filter away beneficial nutrient back to the tank. Bio-ball can maintain (to establish a colony of good bacterial to eat away those nitrite) but nitrate will build up. Anyway, not to worry. Ur 6 inches DSB + refugim should able to counter it.

yes, don't need cotton. If you want to know more, go ML to look at their display tank. same concept applies.

cotton is there for bigger chunks of debris. you can keep it there and change it regularly.
