SRC Member kschew1498 Posted December 18, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 18, 2003 Hi Anybody encounter a hammer coral having its tentacles...or should I say the hammer head, sticking out to as long as 4 to 5 inches long....Seem like fishing something.. It has previous attached the hammer head to a mushroom causing it to melt away!!! Is there anything I should do? I have relocate my mushroom and buttons away from it....the nearest to it now is a jewel....sign! Its already just a 2 ft tank and now I have to create ample space for this hammer coral!!! silver2578
had the same problem awhile back. try changing the waterflow (direction/flow rate) ard the hammer. It worked for me.
SRC Member kschew1498 Posted December 18, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 18, 2003 I have a rotating power head now and it pointing toward the hammer but ...... Silver2578, does you hammer re-tract itself when you blow your water direction at it? How is it now? Still extending the tentacles to such length? FuEl
Those are the sweeping tentacles used to help the hammer to gain space for growth. SRC Member sinner Posted December 19, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 19, 2003 mine tend to retract when current are directly blowing at it thats why i removed my rotating powerhead
Ammonit
Hi, I read from the book Corals, that if the water current is strong, the sweeping tentacles will be extended. Hammer perfer gentle water movement.
SRC Member ah^siao Posted December 19, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 19, 2003 yesh.. too fast the tentacles will retract itself... when my octopus coral is directly blown by my tunze.. it retract.. till i gotta change a post for my tunze.. terryansimon
retract = withdraw the length as in, bringing the tentacles in. are you sure?
SRC Member kschew1498 Posted December 19, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 19, 2003 Now I am really confused??!!! "water current is strong, the sweeping tentacles will be extended" "too fast the tentacles will retract itself..." "try changing the waterflow (direction/flow rate) ard the hammer." I probably have to conclude to have it at a low waterflow area??? Right???
Ammonit
IMO & from the book , hammer needs a gentle water movement.
