recommendation for skimmer

Recommended Posts

  • SRC Member

hi bros :)

Just wanna check if any decent skimmer to recommend for my 4x2x2 with a 4x1.5x1.5 sump.

My main limitation is the space between the sump tank and stand which is only approximately 15-18cm wide.

Also my water level is almost 12 inches high.

I saw a hang-on online:

AquaC Remora Pro Hang-On Protein Skimmer

Any feedback on it?

Any other recommendations from the experts here?

Thanks much in advance.

aquac remora skimmer (hang on type) is good for nano tank.

Yours is 4feet tank + 4feet sump.

Should get at least Deltec APF 600 and above.

Let us know your budget :)

Thanks for your prompt reply bro.

I was reading the specs on ReefDepot:

Specifications

- Dimensions: 7.5" x 3.25" x 21.5" (L x W x H)

- Minimum tank height: 12.75"

- Minimum overhead clearance for proper function: 6.75"

- Required pump rate*: 350 - 500 gph

- No plumbing required

- Large collection cup - will not overflow

- Patented Spray Injection System (U.S. Patent # 6,436,295)

- "Bulletproof" construction and craftmanship

- Super-Slim design

- Suitable for (Gallons): 40 to 120

it was based on that that i presume it was ample :( luckily got SRC otherwise sure jump there n buy n curse n swear... ahahahaha

Dun exactly have a budget parse... but as i just started out in this hobby, i dun think i will be spending too much for now... as always, i prefer to start cheap then as my interest and experience grow, invest further into it :)

all suggestions are good :) will look thru all, weigh the pros n cons and decide on what to look for :)

Thanks bro.

Hai, you can try Iwarna...

Usually saw them keep some 2nd hand "Reef Octopus Beckett Skimmer" in they store.. Cleaned and looks new... This skimmer is affordable and reasonable skim power.... I am using Reef Octopus Beckett as well... so far, quite satisfied with it...

Cheers...

Ya... 1st your budget, then measure foot print, then calculate volume of tank ensure skimmer fits your catagory n then decide insump or not coz if wan out sump size not issue Liao. But of coz there's pro n con. Out sump make sure piping all must fitted Swee Swee ah Bo flood n sea water unlike fresh water. Kana anything, anything sure rust or corrosion.

Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean!

Yup thats what i'm concern about now... foot print shouldn't be an issue cos i have ample space inside my sump. Problem is squeezing it in... sigh... will look around... probably a Delcor or something...

Try not to waste $ getting 2. Die die also get 1 big wan coz future still can use.

Dun place together with return pump as the water level there always fluctuate.

Water level there will eventually affect the performance of your skimmer.

I know sometime ''2 is better than 1''lol. but definitely not this time

Redsea skimmers - would suggest you skip them.

MCE600 - seems a little undersized for your tank and the collection cup is pretty small. you might need to empty it every day or alternate day. markietan was using 2 of it for his 5 footer i think. you might want to check with him if he has not gone for his overseas posting yet.

The rest I am not too sure. if you are getting an in sump skimmer, I am sure you have a lot more other models to select from.

Deltec, Skimz, H&S, Reef Oct, BM...... worth every penny to get a high performance skimmer.

Eqpt: Deltec MCE 600, Tunze 6055 with Tunze 7091 controller, Artica 1/15 HP chiller, AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED Light System

2011 resolution : Do it simpler, better and in an easier way!

Pls find info from Skimmer 101 and Wiki....

beckett skimmer works similar to a downdraft skimmer except it uses a beckett pond injector and a pressure rated pump to make a great deal of foam.

http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/skimmer101.htm

Beckett skimmer

The Beckett skimmer has some similarities to the downdraft skimmer but introduced a foam nozzle to produce the flow of air bubbles. The name Beckett comes from the patented foam nozzle developed and sold by the Beckett Corporation (United States), although similar foam nozzle designs are sold by other companies outside the United States (e.g. Sicce (Italy)). Instead of using the plastic media that is found in downdraft skimmer designs, the Beckett skimmer uses design concepts from previous generations of skimmers, specifically the downdraft skimmer and the venturi skimmer (the Beckett 1408 Foam Nozzle is a modified 4 port venturi) to produce a hybrid that is capable of using powerful pressure rated water pumps and quickly processing large amounts of aquarium water in a short period of time. Commercial Beckett skimmers come in single Beckett, dual Beckett, and quad Beckett designs. Well engineered Beckett skimmers are quiet and reliable but the powerful pumps used in larger Beckett skimmer designs can take up additional space, introduce additional noise, and use more electricity than less powerful pumps. Unlike the Downdraft and Spray Induction skimmers, Beckett skimmer designs are produced by a number of companies in the United States and elsewhere and are not known to be restricted by patents.
