If you mean coralline algae, then no. They don't particularly like to eat any kind of algae.

Silk worm? Doesn't sound like algae to me. If it is a fan worm or something like that I won't be surprised that the hermit decides to try and make a meal of it. All crabs are opportunistic feeders. Sometimes they are seen picking a turf algae and it is because they are trying to get at the pods in it.
