for 120GB harddisk, the approximate price will be around 150 SGD. The casing ranges from 70 to 130. Buy casing with builtin FAN. So in total 220 to 280.

Yes i put them in external casing. The external casing has it own power supply. Better buy combo its always helpful. If you dont know how to assemble the harddisk in to the external casing, ask the shop to fix.

Normally i buy these stuffs from storage media in 4th floor. I have 2 at home. one 120GB and another 200GB.

Dont think it will make much difference for the notebook or desktop. Since the external casing has its own power supply, it wont draw any power from the notebook.

2 options for you 1. Buy a regular external harddisk(for example maxtor external harddisk) 2. Buy a normal hardisk + external casing. I always go for the 2nd option as it is cheaper compared to the regular external harddisk. There are many external casing available in the market. If you are going to use the external harddisk continuously, then you have to buy a casing with built in fan. USB or Firewire : Its up to you. But i find USB is more common compared to firewire. Or you can buy a combo which has both. For harddisk you can go for either Western Digital, segate, hitachi.

Yup the settings are unchanged. If you really want to have a good timer, you can buy hager timers. Its not plug an play. You have to do some electrical work. I was advised to install a conductor or something like that which will prevent the timer from spoiling in case there is a power trip.

I have mixed experience with carefour timer. bought 2. One spoiled and one working. Most of the time the timer fails if there is a trip.
