  1. make sure u place 2 rubber bands across the bottle mouth. this prevetns fish or shrimps from going in to get the bait.

  3. thanks for the replies peeps! But i realised that the snails leave alot of poo, small pieces of droppings. wouldn't these add to the nitrate levels?
  4. a tsunamis with speed of 800km/h, wonder if there's anything left to see when diving/ snorkelling? nevertheless, my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the act of God. May they find peace soon.
  5. use essence of chicken bottle. use 2 to 3 rubber bands to make a cross or a star pattern across the opening of the bottle. bury it diagonally into the sand bed, the rubber bands are to prevent shrimps from getting the prawn meat, as their feelers cannot fit into the bottle due to the rubber bands. crabs will crawl in, but its too slippery to climb out.
  6. maybe u could wash the wool with sea water, then replace it. or use 2 sheets of wool. When time to change, thorw the dirtier one and wash the second one. place the washed one closer to the water intake and place a new one next to it.

Recently i started keeping snails. i had 2 turbo snails. and i realised they release loads of excretement.with this, my sand-bed started turning brown really quick. could this be due to high nitrates level? after removing both the snails, the growth of diatoms seem to be retarding. has anyone experienced this before? should i still keep snails? since they a good clean up crews. Regards

  13. purchase soft corals such as 'leather'. read that they thrive on nitrates, thus bringing nitrate levels down.
  14. fish may get stressed in a tank without sand due to the reflection of light from the bottom.

  16. Thanks for the replies peeps. hmmm, mine's a 21 watts each tube x 2. how do i upgrade to high output. can i get higher output tubes or... haev to change the ballast? which means do i have to change the hood?
  17. I recently bought a 3ft Dymax light set. would anyone know if its a high or normal output? how to cehck if its high /normal ? Can one purchase the bulbs to make it high output?

  20. Hi everyone, read that the Nitrosommonas bacteria oxidizes toxic Ammonia to Nitrite. And Nitrobacter transform Nitrite to Nitrate. My question is, are these bacteria found on live rocks, and / or they cultivated (too) on our filter material such as bio balls etc.
