  1. Hi all, just discovered this thing growing behind my LR. It looks like red leaves? Is it some kind of macro algae? Any bros got advice? Thanks Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks bro. So as long the coral is alive, algae will never grow on top? In that case I'll just scrub off the algae from the dead polyps Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  3. Hi bros, need some expert advice. I detected this green growth starting to grow on my favia / favites (I don't know what this is). I'm assuming this is algae. Any bros have any advice how to get rid of it? I'm afraid to scrub it off as I did that before to my sun coral and killed it instead, even when I brushed very lightly. For now I moved it to face away from the light, the coral is still feeding normally, doesn't seem affected. Thanks all Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  4. That's a great gesture. Ups! Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  5. Hi guys, recently my tank is starting to do badly due to the prolonged high nitrates and phosphates, probably due to my use of dechlorinated tap water for top up. I'm considering to get a RO/DI unit BUT my home/office has no free tap for me to tap on. Is there any alternative to this arrangement? Like maybe to attach the unit to a pump inside a pail of water, then run the water through the unit and out into another pail? I'm not sure how RO/DI units operate, so need some experts to advise me. Thanks!
  6. Not an expert, but my elegance is placed in very low flow (tentacles sway very slightly only) and it opened up fully within 3 days. Even got hosted by my clown and still opened. Maybe can try that out? Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  7. Pm sent, thanks Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  8. Nice one, bro [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  9. Personally for my office tank I use dechlorinated tap water, a fan for cooling, plus a humble beamswork light for my first tank and still mange to keep some lps and livestock. However, my observation is that lps tend to just survive but not grow under these conditions. If you just keep soft corals or just go for fowlr tank, then it's not much of a problem. But do note that because of this, I have to do a lot more maintenance - bigger weekly water change, aggressive skimming, weekly water test, lots of macroalgae and a lot of top up of evaporated water to compensate. So you have to see whether it's worth the extra trouble. For me I do it because I don't think my boss will appreciate me installing a fancy Di unit in the toilet lol Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  10. Very nice, bro. Whenever I see such awesome Diy, I wish I was an engineer [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  11. Same, my elegance is on the sandbed with gentle flow, opens up to almost a foot wide (skeleton is only 4 inches long). I also have a clown hosting it so it just shares pellets with the elegance Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  12. Congrats bro. What trap design was it? Can share? Thanks
  13. Not really serious but will probably add unnecessary "extra ingredients" to your water Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  14. Forgot to mention, make sure it's plain nori for cooking and not the seasoned one for snacks! Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  15. Can feed it with nori. Soak the nori until it sinks then put in a isolation box and put the urchin inside so it can find it easily. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  16. Think that won't work... Finally saw the whole worm... Bugger is almost 2ft long.... [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  17. Agree, urchin is awesome but one bad thing is that it eats coralline algae as well. Also he knocked down a few frags but ok lah, no big deal Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  18. This is the method I used for my damsel. First I waited till it was night and the tank has been in total darkness at least two hours. Then I turned on super bright lights and started knocking the rocks with a net to scare the damsel out. It rushed out but was very blur and couldn't focus and was easily scooped out with my net. 19. I'm using a Kessil A360 for my 2 ft tank. If you like shimmer, the shimmer from Kessil lights are absolutely beautiful with no color separation. It's about $400-450 I think. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  20. Ah beng has two or three. Saw them er the weekend Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  21. Pm'd you, Hans. Thanks Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  22. I'm not familiar with coral rx so I'm not sure. Should be ok, better than nothing. There's reef iodine available commercially also. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  23. Try doing an iodine dip, sounds like a potential infection due to contact Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  24. No problem, I'm also a newbie haha. If you're suspecting toxin in the water you can use activated carbon to absorb some of it. Most poisoning happens when reefers frag leathers by cutting pieces of it off. That's the sure way to bleed toxin into the water. Also read stories of reefers who fragged zoas with open wounds on their hands and ended up almost dying from palytoxin poisoning. Anyway you can just Google for beginner corals, they usually recommend soft corals and some LPS. But once you go for any stony corals, you have to start looking out for calcium and alkalinity levels, which can be tough for a newbie. I'm still learning too, ended up killing some of my LPS already lol Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
  25. I need this because my family won't let me buy any more reef equipment hahahaha [emoji23] Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
