  1. Mine's even worse... i grilled it under open fire using a lighter... burned it to black and charred... 2 weeks later ... it came back at exactly the same spot...
  2. Simple... test it with tap water... which one gives you 1.000 will be the accurate one....
  3. Chinese made tanks have been widely reported to have this inherent problem... seems like inconsistent or lack of QC/testing.... same with their pumps/filter (some caught fire) Best to stick to German/Japanese stuff... safe of mind... Even if the "hit" rate is low... i wouldn't want to risk it....
  4. 28-31C.... surviving but not growing...
  5. Here it goes.... Minimum equipments, Lazy-Bum Tank 1) 1 coralife 10K 28W PL 2) 1 coralife 18W actintic 3) Eheim 2213 (bio filteration) 4) Eheim liberty 200 (mechanical) Livestock/corals 1) 1 yellow-tail damsel + 1 Flame angel + 1 true percula 2) 3 RBTA, 1 purple tenacle anemone, 1 star polyps, 1 true octo, some mushies, etc Will post a pic up...
  6. My 10gallon Nano, no water change since 2004. Doing well, RBTA splitted 3 times. No chiller Chronology Feb 2002- New tank commission, cycling Mar2002- 20% water change every week Aug 2002- 20% water change every 2 weeks (coralline algae forming) Jan 2003 - 20% water change every month Jun 2003- 20% water change every quarter Mar 2004 - last water change (coralline growing on glass) It almost maintenance free now... ha ha ha... of coz still need to feed the fishes everyday
  7. I also transferred 150 to him in Jan 07 for a TECO chiller. till now nothing... sms him many times.... also say will not cheat my money... say will transferred back the money .... again nothing just sms him a final warning... i have kept all the sms and bank transaction... hope you are hearing this natural769
  8. Hi, anyone knows any LFS has purple tang available presently? Thanks in advance
  9. jelly fish(those u see in stores) live span is very short , typically around 4 weeks.... and need special filter system to prevent being shredded... There are other breeds of jelly fish that have significantly longer live span but not suitable for reef tanks, too huge and have powerful stings. they are very elegant creature though; there is a public aquarium in california which showcase jelly fishes; they are channel in from the ocean and then returned back regularly; evidence that they cannot be kept
  10. Too heavily stocked IMO, should half it, unless you want to do at least 20% wafer change every 5 days....
  11. aiptasia are difficult to eradicate, coz they multiply if are broken up. also they sting corals and even anemones. i use flame from a lighter preferable those wind proof type; lift the LR out and burnt it till ash, not even a single piece of charred portion should remain; they will come back one another mtd is to use chemicals and inject using syringe; but never tried that B4, scared may contaiminate tank
  12. Bubble tip is not the natural host for common clowns. only 1 in ten will accept a bubble tip. In presence of other soft corals, the common clown will host the corals instead
  13. Dear all, from the previous few threads; it seems many have missed the point that Bubble tip Anemone is not natural host for True Percula or Common clowns. In fact, only about 10% would accept BTA as the host anemone.
  14. my green bubble tip recently lost all its tenticles. now like botak how come? but still attaching and moving around in the tank should i remove it? cannot feed; as it has no tenticles to capture the prawn. Siao liao in between; i also have one white with purple tip; seems to be doing quite well, feeding weekly with prawn. 5month old.
  15. Hi Tang, if you are going japan again, drop me a mail, i will show you where all the goodies are. Even their fresh water stocks look good
  16. There are a few marine shops located in Central tokyo. The most acessible 1 is located near to Ueno Subway (Yamanote line). It called Hikari.Very good quality life stock. Exotic too, but very expensive. ANother 1 is located near to Shinjuku Subway. Its on the top storey of a major departmental store. Also good quality life stock. Try to get the Aqualife magazines, they have adverts in every issues. Also, for really cool experience of marine public aquarium, can try sunshine city's Marine Aquarium. Located about 10mins walk from Ikebukore subway station think its about 1800yen per entry My opinion is to go for their equipment, high quality stuffs....very chio and nice ADA stuff is considerably cheaper in japan.
  17. There's another shop on the second floor which has some very cool marine equipments; all the coralife lightings, and GISEMANN lightings also have but look like showroom, and usually dun open one. Heard that they are the local agent for GISEMANN lightings.

  19. Dear Sgreef, would like to thank all reefers here, who had helped me got through the process of setting up a successful reef tank. My previous post was at Jan 2003 titled "Cycling Failure" my nano tank (1.5 feet) was going through the cycling phase where the water turned cloudy and smelly. tot it was total failure. But with advices given from this forum, managed to pull through; thank you sgreef my nano, now 10months old, stable but fishes are shy (1 percula clown; 1 yellow-tailed damsel and 1 yellow-tang)
  20. Day 11 Dear all, 1) water has become crystal clear 2) Foaming is now minimal 3) No more smell 4) Slimy layer on LR has diappeared, but white residue now remains 5) Tested for ammonia, down from purple to green Questions: Can i remove my LR to give them some scrubbing? THey look kinda of dirty : I should start testing on nitrite rite? Concern : It seems a little bit fast, tot it's about 3weeks fastest
  21. Hi Iona, you are right about some of the vital minor information that are required. Only when you start to do the actual cycling, will the questions pop-up. same as you, i have been actively reading in this forum and few others guess i learnt it the hard way..... 6th day. Good news The water in the tank miraculously cleared, though there is a residual yellowish tint (, a bit like magic the stench is greatly reduced, its still there but only above the water surface. LR still have slimy layer, no live sign visible water level is much lower, due to more evaporation as the shifting of the spray bar causes alot of surface agitation, not to mention the foaming, like cake man the main change is just the spray bar position Thanks everyone!!! ...think everything should be okay rite? or should i do the recommended water change? also do i need a power head, as the eheim 2213 seems like pretty strong for my 33L tank? Thanks again.....everyone
  22. Dear bawater/ tanzy, thanks for the prompt replies, 1 typo earlier, the seachem test kit is for ammonia, so now it is showing toxic!!....latest toll....1 more tiny star fish dead anyway i think will go for 100% water change, nearly impossible to go near the tank, much less to change filter media or shift any of the setup...the smell is simply awesome Questions: 1) Can i rinse and scrub the LR under fresh water? 2) Rinse the substrate? 3) Wash the filter media (1 carbon layer, 2 layers of biohome, 1 layer of eheim "rings")?
  23. Hi Bawater, salinity at 1.022, Nitrate using seachem colour test, from 1st day (yellow) to now 5th day (purple) which is toxic... yet to test the pH, do it tonite using sera kit so will the tank at the present state able to complete the cycling successfully? if okay, i will wait if not going to be okay, better stop, sibei smelly man..... PS: 2kg liverocks in half inch crush coral substrate, tank is 33L(1 and 1/2 feet), lighting is mounted so have space for skimming....
  24. Hi Bawater, the dead shrimp had totally disintegrated, no remains left, now into the fifth day can't really see the inside of the tank clearly, too cloudy, so can;t remove what is left inside, coz cannot see anything....jialat heavy foaming on surface after shifting spray bar position as advised for improve circulation no protein skimmer, can a small tank fit? anyway, everybody is staying clear of the tank, my sis even say i siao liao, trying to poison everyone
  25. Dear Tanzy/ Spad, thanks for clarifying my doubts, i will let it cycle, though the stench now fill the entire living room, how long will it take for the smell to go away?
