  1. what's the green stuff at the back? makes your tank look very natural.
  2. wah thanks guys for pointing this out! hahaha. I threw all instructions and box away already the day i bought it!
  3. Unfortunately I've been really sluggish about my tests. Will purchase the test kits after CNY. Right now how i judge is diatom and nuisance algae growth in the display tank. so long as its kept under control, all is well =) NO3 is still 12.5 Initially I plan to clean them every week but I got lazy (bad mistake), left them for 3 weeks? Since I have 2 screens, what i plan to do is clean them on weekly basis but stagger the cleaning, week 1 clean screen 1, week 2 clean screen 2, week 3 clean screen 1 again ... ... ... I used to use a comb to just comb in the direction of the algae growth, it will just rip off alot of algae but now i just put the screen against a wall, use a hose, squeeze the end and jet water at it. what comes off is excess, what doesn't I will just leave it there.
  4. Alright guys, this is a heads-up warning. clean your screens regularly. I let mine grew too thick, the bottom layer died and when i washed today, all the algae just fell out. my screen looks white as new. u wouldn't want that happening.
  5. hey but if u go Jrh Marine's shop, he has so many moorish, been swimming there for long long time. what's his magic?
  6. it's also to do with the volume of your tank. yes MG don't really matter in a fowlr tank but in my opinion, make a one time effort to just raise it to maybe 1300 or 1400 then leave it lor. it shouldn;t deplete since you're not having a reef. generally MG maintains the balance between KH and CA levels which is essential for reef tanks.
  7. Creetin, yes the algae screen with the light shining on it causes a lot of evaporation and it does help cool the tank. I love your idea of using the overflow but isn't it noisy? and the green patch is a very good sign. mine started off like that. continue watching it cos suddenly that will be a growth spurt. very interesting.
  8. Chemi-pure's good. I swear by that but it's really really really expensive.
  9. what kinda magnesium powder are you using? dosing for maintenance purpose is easy but when you're dosing for corrective purposes, it does take quite a scary amount of magnesium additive
  10. Creetin keep us updated with the growth from the warm light. maybe i should try swtiching bulbs
  11. unless you have a really big screen then i suggest channeling ALL the water onto the screens. best if you have 2 return pipes, one to screen, one to sump. put a valve on one of them so u can still regulate the flow to ensure a nice waterfall effect.
  12. still Nitrates still at 12.5. maybe. maybe its still a new tank (2mths odd) so unable to achieve 0 yet. i think more flow is better than less. maybe u can install a valve to regulate the flow if its too strong. use a union for the screen so u can remove easily.
  13. Used this sump for 2 months but the design didn't suit my needs so I replaced it. - Great condition - Generic design with a single bubble trap - Convenient to place pumps, skimmer, FR, wet/dry tower etc. Specs: 3ft x 1ft x 1.5ft(height) 6mm glass $30 or just make your best offer Collect at West Coast (right by West Coast Plaza) John@97813303

Hey can i just ask, is there a device that can read color temperature, lux and PAR?
  15. hey gary, is a relay really necessary? I'm halfway through building one.
  16. there was an aquamedic bioflotor and tunze 9002 nano skimmer out in the forum recently. think that would be great. raydiative's recommendation for the Redsea Prizm will work too
  17. yes you may. the standard Philips ones will do. 12W 13W 18W 23W depends on how bright you want them to be. There are 2 versions, cool daylight (white light) and warm daylight which gives a more yellowish tone. I've been seeing very nice lush algae growth with the cool daylight.
  18. hey jyoon you just reduced his sump tank specs by 10 times! hahahaha!
  19. might be a sign of ammonia present in your water.
  20. buy a tang. will finish that patch in no time. it looks pretty nice actually.
  21. high KH, insufficient mg causing CA to precipitate out.
