  1. Oic.... but sometimes its hard to imagine for you guys to remove the rockwork to glue a pc of coral on it.... the rockwork seems so extensive.... anyway thx alot guys
  2. yes i agree with kelstorm, i use to use wet hands to handle my corallife salt.. and after a wild, they crump together and soon, the solubility problem.... too old it wil also have the same problem.... $18 is at a lfs shop in serangoon... at lck 110, steve quoted $20, but i got it $19 in the end....
  3. I guess thats the simplest that i can absorbed!!!! A very big thank you Tanzy~~!!!
  4. Hi After reading all the alk, pH KH GH carbonate borates bicarbonates, I'm still blur like sotong..... perhaps can i ask for even more layman advices like when alk is low, i add _________ when pH is low, i add _________ when kH is low, i add _________ reef buffer raises carbonates, but thats kH? i got this seachem reef buffer which says it will maintain pH at 8.3... so issit just this i add, to maintain pH and kH? what abt alk? i know kalk raises calcium and OH- but OH- relates to pH or alk? So is there any additives that raises alk only? coz i already have high calcium level in my tank 480ppm... sorry to troublez...
  5. Hi guys, when you all say use superglue to stick the frags, do you all mean get the frag submerged underwater, and squirt the superglue onto the frag and rock??? wun the superglue float all over the water? I've never try b4 though... or get the rock out, and stick it while its outta water??? can be a real stupid ques.. but wo zhen de bu zhi dao~~!!!
  6. I think someone had the same idea as you before.... but halogens are yellow in colour... so its not suitable...
  7. maybe its in ya overflow or within the filters? on the back of ya tank all dried up??? several times i wake up to see my clown sucked into the overflow box///
  8. wow i must get to see how red this mushroom is man... S$50~~!!!
  9. Can I be first in the queue to rcv the frags? heh heh
  10. I got a few strands of that red algae too... its seems very hardy, a few strands is stuck beneath a pile of bryopsis for weeks.. but its still red... name? i dunno.. but the bt timah lfs aunite says its called bamboo... i think the green algae is bryopsis..
  11. Whenever i mix coralife salt, i do get a small layer of scum on the surface too~! I just use a cup to skim it off... but i think algae growth in the pail after 3 wks will happen to all contained water... But for the price $18/6.6kg, i think its worth the effort.. is there a cheaper salt?
  12. hahaha... guys... by putting a opposing view, it seems that I have created the dynamite fiery atmosphere... i really mean no offense.. i have taken your words light heartedly and hope to present just another aspect of it maybe i was not good at it ) I'm not saying that we r the main cause of destruction of the sea, but just that we cant label LH hobbyist so... anyway i tot it was a healthy discussion, if in the midst of these words, if I've hurt anyone in whatever way... I do apologise.. ) haha i think my avatar looks kinda fierce too.... heh heh....
  13. Even though how minute amounts of LR that you use, you are still destroying... this is a growing hobby?? ALL THE WORST....you are just depriving another fish or crab of their home... help to appreciate nature more? yes.. one may have the upbeing of plucking things from the nature and then hope one's tank can educate others about coral biology and diveristy,,,but isnt tat an irony "Look thats one of the rare specimen of coral I have in my tank" tats wht most hobbyist would wanna say.. but havent him or her just deprived nature yet of another already very few specimen and life for his or her own satisfaction?? Something may not inspire you or seems nothing for you to learn from, but that doesnt mean it is the same for others? Are you really such a higher being as to dictate that something is inferior? The reef tank is yet another abomination with nature... with all the life support machines hooked on it, wht can u say?face it, our tanks can never be as natural as the sea.... I admit, I'm no great being or some noble conservationist, I know of all these yet i get LR and hope one day i can spend thousands buying rare specimens and keep them thriving in my tank so that ppl will go googa... I just feel that almost whatever verbs or adjectives that is used to described LH is unfair, and in most ways it can be used to describe u and me... I dun mind being called the same names coz I know it and yet I do it.... the rules of CITES and AVA isnt there for nothing...
  14. LH maybe mutated, LH may be bengz but i dun understand why condemn them to such a state and try to establish that marine is superior??? Afterall, LH just need a tank of water and some numbered balls to give ppl hope.. what does a marine tank need ???? liverocks, fine sand ..etc Where we get them? the big open sea,.... why is there a ban on LR??? Do we not know that alot of these LR are harvested w/o replacement? Yet we are still buying them...~~!! alot of $$$ spent on LH? So how much have you spent on ya tank? Why issit that feeding LH to eels gets all cheers and feeding baby clowns to eels get all boos??? Its just as cruel.. In our eyes, LH hobbyist are a bunch of suckers.. in their eyes we might be too... I'm not pro LH, just that i tink its abit too unfair for us to pass extreme comments... no offense though

TTboy U definitely need the external box because it is needed to maintain the water level of the internal overflow box so as not to let it fall below the C-siphon inlet... else it will not be self starting... Blueterror i think the dimensions that you are going to have is too small and it might not be worth the effort.. imagine throwing sand in, u'll not be increasing the water vol by a significant amt, furthermore, even though you can have a mini DSB, but the surface area maybe too small to see any effects.. .. idea is that i feel its just too small for the whole effort.. is there a typo?? HEATER???!!!!
  16. HI tiger, you mean those CYCLE can actually speed up the process??? can i add it with fishes in the tank? Hmm.. maybe i get one, to reduce my resilent nitrite levels....
  17. Yes, ppl also always tells me with such $$ i can get a MH... but thing is MH must come with a chiller... or you'll get a boiling cauldron....
  18. I agree with clowntrigger very much... mine is about a month plus, coming to two, and i still detect nitrite~!
  19. maybe your hebe hiam is too small la... mrjoe throws in tigerprawn~~~~ hahaha... i guess the things u throw in is too small to even have ammonia detectable???
  20. Just wondering, how you guys manage to DIY the rounded tubes and shapes for the desired design?
  21. Hi sinn I did just that.. i dugged up the chips leaving a thin layer behind...and cover it with the new sand... but thing is after that exercise, i realise that my tank bounced back to the havent cycle stage.. alot of worms and copepods die during the digging and in the end i have to start the cycle all over again~!!!
  22. i bought it from coral farm in LCK... i also cannot believe the price... i tot they are more expensive,..
  23. But one thing i note is that these rocks with bushes of algae on them as so much more beneficial critters on them then normal liverocks...when i got 2 bushes, its like overnight, i got millions of copepods crawling ard, and lotsa brittlestars... i think its a good idea for mrjoe to use them to seed the otherwise dead rock of critters.... mrjoe, perhaps after one or two month, if the algae becomes too unsightly, just take it out and give to someone else if u dun mind trimming them constantly leave them in the tank at a corner... they are rather good nutrient removers..
  24. Not the christmas worms... my feather duster is yellow )... when it was in the pail, every 2 days, i mix some sprayed dried phytoplankton in and stir the water whenever i feel like it.. anyway, now its in my tank.. its been 3 weeks since i've got it... its only $1.60 thats why i buy and try... i seems ok now leh.. hope it doesnt die away...
  25. Hi AT would sprayed dried phytoplankton be a good enuff subsitute? The description on it seems wonderful.... "The spray dried intact cells arent alive, but when rehydrated they are a microencapsulated source of color enhancing beta carotene and astaxanthin pigments, vitamins, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Ideal food for filter feeding inveterbrates, such as soft and stony corals, anemones, feather duster worms, clams, sponges and tunicates." how true?
