huh why did the feeding cause such an impact? Is it because it was fed too much?

Not sure what happened, overfed - not sure as i fed less than 1 cap of the 5 in 1 coral food (1st time using this coral food ). Within an hour, the fishes began to show sympton and died eventually.

Like to find out, when i open the coral food, there was no seal ( meaning the moment i uncap,i can see the content in the bottle ). The solution is also black in color. As this is the 1st time i am using 5 in 1, previously using Kent coral food solution ( can't remember the name). So is this normal?

I bought new from lfs. Did not notice any smell from the solution ( should be no smell ). Saw my damsel rush to water surface struggling and died soon after. Another died earlier and I didn't notice. Not sure whether the gills pale or not as I rush to change 50% of the water but no use maroon , shrimps and snails still died. Tank abt 2 mths old.

Yes, running the nano air stone skimmer from Dymax but i off it when i fed. Cause the instruction states to off the skimmer for 1hr during feeding....Run it immediately when realised something wrong.

Sounds like a case of contaminated contents in the bottled food.

I haven't used the 5-in-1 for a long time, but the bottle I bought previously had a seal. Don't recall it's black color too..

Condolences..

Do run some activated carbon now to detox the tank..

Thanks all for the suggestion, i have changed abt 90% of the tank water last night. Currently observing whether my remaining corals will make it or not ( as of tis morning, still closed and not opened. )

I am now kind of freak out by this incident. I also have a small tank and if feeding coral food can be so risky I wouldnt dare to try in future.

Any seniors here please help to comment?

Like to find out if it is necessary to fridge coral food which did not indicate requirement of placing in the fridge after 1st use eg Kent invert coral food.

hi bro, can you PM me where you bought this coral food ?

5-in-1 coral food should have a seal and should be milky green in colour. It shouldn't be black. I use it frequently. Overdosing will never kill the fishes immediately like what you have described. Over feeding of coral food should just cause nutrient increase in tank, and maybe algae bloom a few days/ a week later. never heard of feeding normal coral food and immediately fishes come rushing to the surface for air and then die.

Most likely if the food is black in colour, something is wrong (food turned bad?). My advise is stop using the "black" solution and clarify with the LFS u bought from.
