Need advise on recommending suitable LED

Dear all,

I have a 1.5 feet cube tank with mainly LPS currently on Maxspect G2 60W with Ecoxotic Panarama Pro Modules. My Maxspect is begining to show problems and it is time to start looking for a new light set.

I'm currently looking at Radion Pro, however, I'm not sure when it will reach our shores and I do have a problem mounting it.

Any other recommendations on a suitable LED light set?

I am looking for something that can bring out the colours in the corals and make the colour come "POP"!

Appreciate all your advise!

Hi jxlex,

thanks for your advise. I had a look at the Ecoxotic Cannon LEDs. It looks great but . . . I will not be able to fit both over my small tank, one will be enough already. However, to get a kind of colour I want, I suspect I will need both.

Actually I was considering something like the cannon, but with a good mix of colour in a single package. The the Kessil A350 seems to fit the package but I don't think it is available in Singapore. http://reefbuilders.com/2013/02/01/kessil-a350-wins-led-showdown/ Does anyone know if it is available?

Remember reading in someone thread recently that he ordered through US... Might be worth considering... Alternatively why dun u consider 2 units of PAR38s? Readily avail and i had very good results with it in my office tank... U might want to visit ken from madpetz... He has a display sps tank with them on...

Hi jxlex,

the PAR38 may not be sufficient for me. I am currently using close to 92 watts for the LED, will likely need 3 units of PAR38s to get there. I hope to find a more integrated and elegant solution as the tank is in my dining room.

After some reading, I found a few more options like:

  • AquaIllumination Vega Colour
  • Maxspect Razor
  • Kessil A350
  • Ecotech Radion XR30W PRO
  • GHL Mitras

Its a pity most of these are not easily available in Singapore. Any advice?

Hi jxlex, thanks again!

Yup, you are right, both the razor and vega are available locally. Actually, I would love to go for the Razor as it is a real steal for what it gives. Unfortunately, even the smallest 120watt model will stick out of the boundaries of my 1.5 feet tank. As for AI Vega Colour, hmmm, I get a mix feeling after reading reviews about it. Any comments on the Vega Colour?

Hi JimmiPaige,

yeah, so sad, Kessil and the GHL would be amongst my top choice but both are not locally available. Haiz . . .

Hi all,

I had a real headache trying to do a comparison with all the various LEDs available in the market. I decided to put it all in one nice table. In case any of the info is inaccurate, do let me know!

Hi gargamelron, you are right. If I use the full power of the GHL Mitra. 190watts will probably burn everything in my 1.5feet. Hmm, it does look very attractive and I suspect the combination of LEDs will make the corals "POP".

Hmmm . . . must think really hard . . .
