Openned up my cabinet door yesterday, saw small transparent looking ants or bugs running ard the 1st compartment of the sump where the overflow goes in. They are crawling all over the wool and the carbon bags.

I am wondering what are they? I also notice my christmas warrase is fat all the time. so are my gobies. Thinking if its isopods? They are too small to take pics clearly plus i have a lousy camera.

They come in wild rock, sand, etc. They feast on detritus, plankton, and film algae. Most are good and your animals will feast. I am planning to build a refugium to house these little things for my mandarins.

Regarding the word "pod" in aquarium usage:

More than you wanted to know about copepods:

Without a photo its hard to say, but 80% certain you should be referring to copepods once again. If they are in your sump, definitely they will make it up to your display tank through the return pump. This is why we mention free food for your fishes. Usually, people cultivate pods in the sump as this is their safe haven, away from constant predators, giving them a chance to multiple and eventually some of it makes it way up to the display tank.

They can come on liverocks, corals, macroalgae etc etc. MY tank has an ios sump with no refugium, but my tank has tons of it too as i only keep 2 cleaner shrimps with my corals. Fishless system.
