Chiller for Anemone Tank???

Recommended Posts

Bro Patrick,

I honestly tink no point.... coz the tank too small and the chiller very ex..... might as well juz get a clip-on fan.... cheaper and save electricity, can do the job also, my clip-on fan maintain the temp at around 26-27 degrees, juz dat the evaporation is scary, gotta top up 1.5-2 L of water daily... but overall, I guess still more cost-effective!

Well, IMHO, if you wanna keep anything well, i guess its better to maintain around 26-27 degrees, maybe max 28... anything above 28 too hot liao..... if you put your hand in, you can feel that the water is slightly warm... :)

Vincent,

Thanks for your reply. I have just bought a fan, but it seems quite noisy....I guess I have no choice but to live with it.

Also, you are right about the evaporation. It is very quick. BTW, what do you use to top up? Just normal tap water? I was told the best is to top up with distilled water, since the water evaporated is also distilled. According to the fish shop, this way will reduce the growth of unsightly algae since less unwanted mineral from the tap water is introduced into the tank.

Do you or anyone knows where to buy distilled water?

Thanks,

Patrick

my own experience hor.. no need chiller.

I got one in my "fowlr" tank for months hosting my two perculas...

one thing anemone dun likes is strong flow and high nitrate.

other than that, it can tolerant temperature as good as your next door clown.. fish that is.

Just to add........I also notice anemones are extremely sensitive to sudden change of water properties.....eg, top up 2L of water or kalkwasser mixture at one go, the tentacles will shrink and body fold up. Now I DIY the 2L bottle with a ball valve to control the drip rate so as to minimise the change in water properties. Hope this info and pic helps :-)

I also brought those clip on fans before, found it too noisy....however if yours is a DC type of clip on fan, here is a suggestion that worked for me in reducingthe noise.....

Simply replace the AC-DC adaptor to one of those that can adjust the DC voltage. Slowely step down the voltage until a level where the noise and temperature is acceptable....

for me I was able to get away with a voltage of 4.5 V and the fan is near slient....evaporation is also less that way and temp with all lights on is about 2 degree lower then room temp....but do note that, you'll need to buy a AC -DC adaptor with at least 1500mA of power if not the whole thing can burn out....

wah if that is the case, the water will be above 37degs celcius! you only feel that something is hotter/colder if there is a difference from the environment as compared to your body.

so if you say that the water is warmer than the hand, your fishes will be well and truely dead as the temperature will be >37deg. (=
